Thai Party Leaders Attend Reconciliation Lunch Meeting

Featured Replies

Glad you agree that all should be accountable under the law.

Yes, I do, Mick. And I say all[/] should be accountable under the law, including an army chief of staff who lied at a press conference in defence of a fake bomb detector that is the subject of a major criminal investigation in the UK. And a Democrat deputy PM who was at the forefront of organising an illegal militia to stir up trouble at a major international conference in Jomtien ? Don't you agree, surely, that this should be about sorting all this nonsense out, rather than just ridding the political scene of one particular faction?

Which part of "all' don't you understand?

once upon a time...

... gk rant...

and they lived happily ever after

yingluck was probably busy with some more international crisis and was back with Jeremy Renner in phuket taking care of her pressing issues.

priorities don't you know

She is a member of the Shinawatra clan so I assume that she was out shopping.

Actually she was busy briefing GK on the latest PTP developements and happenings and thanking him for his unwavering support on TV. No time for the humdrum when you have such a personage to chat with.

In most countries the leader of a party is rarely the public figurehead. Same with Presidents and Prime Ministers.

In most Westminster parliamentary systems (which Thailand is one), party leaders will also be PM.

hahaha that must be it

Did I say that it was? Why are you going on about this?

Well she's clearly excused then.

Carry On Shinawatra'ing.

Did I say that the PM was not the Party Leader "<deleted>"?

yingluck is NOT intellectually competent to be PM

that is painfully obvious

had she been from the DEM party, the PTP supporters would be shouting it from the roof tops

the yingluck/PTP administration has demonstrated time and time again it is corrupt from the top to the bottom

Since when do you need to be smart to be PM? You need friends and money, but brain is not required.

The collective ignorance displayed in this thread is not a surprise. Let's review;

- Matubhum Party leader Sonthi Boonyaratglin on Friday hosted a luncheon for party leaders.

- Party leaders or their designates attended.

- Yongyuth Wichaidit the leader of the PTP attended. He is also a Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior.

- A courtesy invitation was extended to the prime Minister.

And yet, the caustic commentators cry out, the PM wasn't there. Apparently some people are clueless or so blinded by bitter hate or incapable of basic reading comprehension skills to understand that it was it was a luncheon intended for party leaders, not house leaders. The issues discussed were in respect to political positions which are the domain of party leaders. Chart Pattana Puea Pandin MP Prasert Boonchaisuk was present in lieu of his party leader and Industry Minister Wannarat Charnnukul who had a prior engagement at the BOI Fair. I note that there is no criticism of the missing Chart pattana leader. Some will say, but Abhisit attended. Yes, and what's the point? Maybe the man has extra time on his hands, or more likely because he is party leader. Who knows. The fact remains that this luncheon did not require the PM's presence as it was a meeting for PARTY LEADERS. The most senior representative of the PTP was present, so there is absolutely no basis upon which to criticize the PM.

To those that do not understand the difference between party leader, house leader, and PM, I suggest that they consider enrolling in the introductory Thai political studies course at Mahidol or Chula, assuming they have the academic qualifications. Failing that, they should seek out some education on political organization.

Despite another rational and explicit explanation, I am sure the petty bigots will continue with their expressions of unmitigated hate.Is it any wonder why many Thais have disdain for such people?

I think it was my post that started this confusion off, which was along the lines of it's obvious she isn't the party leader both in title and in action, but saying she isn't the party leader (and not saying much else) wasn't a wise thing to do, and not attending that meeting was also not a wise thing to do, just like every other meeting she hasn't attended, especially when using one of them as an excuse to not attend a different one and then not doing either.

P.S. anyone who thinks Yongyuth Wichaidit is the party leader of PTP is severely deluding themselves.

You people have been tangled in the web of deceit and hatred that has been spun. First there is an outcry that the PM isn't there. When it it is pointed out that the meeting was for the party leaders, all sorts of snide comments are made to cover up for the erroneous statements. Now the Thaksin comments are trotted out. Fine. You claim Thaksin is the party leader. Ok. Then ask the luncheon organizer why he didn't invite Mr. Thaksin. Mr. Thaksin has his Thai passport and is able to travel and I bet that had the other party leaders insisted that he appear to share his sage wisdom, Mr. Thaksin would have given their request due consideration. Maybe he could have asked Mr. Abhisit to sit on his knee and he could have pulled the strings and made a funny voice to entertain the party leaders. Better yet, I suggest you take your expertise to the ECC and tell them to change all the legal documents showing the PTP leader name and demand that it be changed to that of Mr. Thaksin. Shouldn't be difficult since you are all so very important and know how to boss around the help, right?

Why do you insist on pretending like the PTP MPs? Everybody knows where the power is. Everybody knows where the money is. Everybody knows that Thaksin isn't a persecuted martyr. He's a mafia scumbag afraid of going to jail, just like all the other politicians in Thailand. Did he give you a kidney or something? I don't get it. Some of your posts seem well reasoned, and some just hold this man, his party, and his policies up to a heavenly standard. Hes a thug - they're ALL thugs. Once you can accept that, we can start some rational discussion.

You just made the point.

They are ALL thugs, so now it's a matter of degree.

Your point accepted.

Would that be a bit of Santorum?

She has other important issues to deal with, then reconciliation.

1. She has a hair appointment to make her look beautiful,

2. Has to go meet with one of her bothers advisers,

3. She has to .......

If you cannot offer an intelligent comment, why post something that is infantile? Do you feel better?

Your comment reads like someone is envious of the PM's social status.

GK presents balance and reason. But too many posters on these discussions refuse to accept that Thaksin and his allies are only one part of a complex and rather ugly equation. Once everyone accepts that (and I´m truly baffled as to why some posters won´t) we can have serious, non-personal discussions.

Why do you all pick on that ONE none- sensical sentence in a non- sensical article?

It's the rabid sheep reflex, they can't help it.

Of little concern is the fact that PM is not the party leader

It is one thing to obviously not be the party leader, it is a quite different thing to come out and say it.

And you are surprised that people pounce on it?

It is one thing to obviously not be the party leader, it is a quite different thing to come out and say it.

How can I put this? She is not Party Leader of the PTP. Yongyuth Wichaidit was elected Party leader on Dec 7th 2008. That is why he attended a meeting of Party Leaders.

There , that wasn't so hard was it?

A very positive move and I somewhat see her position. A meeting of party leaders should be attended by party leaders and hers agreed to attend. Correct? The same can, therefore, be accomplished if all parties are sincere about reconciliation. If they simply use this to be critical of her for not attending, then this is perhaps another charade driven by motives other than reconciliation.

I am sure those on the inside now the true motivates and the intent if such a meetin. May be prudent for her to nit attend. Those of us not in the know can only speculate as to all factors at play. Haha, some will never be happy and always look for the negative,

I´ve made my opinions about Thaksin´s corruption and mis-management clear (though I resolutely refuse to join in any of the daft rant-fests). Would you be so kind as to flag up your forum criticisms of Dem and army corruption and misdemeanours? A few links to your previous posts will be fine.
