I cannot afford 18.000++ a month for my employees, it's an out of market salary for restaurant staff huh.png

I know several farang here in KPG ready to work for that salary. I'm no kidding

Maybe they run away because you may offer them 8 K or 9 K and they mistook it for 8 km or 9 kms so they thought you were telling them to run for there money. they are probably sitting at home now wondering why you haven't paiud them there minth salery after they done what they thought you asked. run 8 KM for your salery at the end of each month. Maybe when you talked about running a business they thought that you were opening a running business and they had to run for money, hence they ran away

that is why u need thais with degrees so they have an IQ of understanding. if my boss told me to run 8km at the end of the month then i would either run away because that is stupid thing to ask or call the crazy police to rescue him from himelf as he is obviously mad.

then i would take over and run away with the business

Watersports and Diving industry, the work is normally office based or customer service based.I understand the fact that food places spend less on salary, but same principle applies for the islands you simply need to pay more and offer more.

Otherwise once they have partied out , mum and dad get on there case or they have had there western GF/BF partner experience they move on.

However they dont tend to move on when family says,stay money is good and they can visit occasionally without fear of losing job or not getting paid those days

I have had offices in bangkok in the past too, only way to keep them on team was by paying well and taking care of them.

The restuarants I see doing well in tourist areas in the gulf islands Phuket etc, also pay key staff well (15-25k) and the competition is fierce to get the good staff.

If its your GF/BF MIL or wife running the place, good luck generally it may make a profit but its unlikely see it as all staff will be most likely be extended family of sorts some great some bad.

Ma and pa or cheap thai food establishments not an issue, any serious place charging above normal Thai prices for food needs to up there game with service.

This costs Money.

KPG has changed massively the last years, more and more couples and families visit, like it or not its fast becoming a part of Samui in terms of tourists.(outside of course the monthly Full mooners)

seriosuly i agree with Stiggy u pay more in the right way then you get more. with health being one of the biggest prorites in Thailand then offering health inssurence would be a big loss to your staff as getting sick can be very expensive here plus most thais cannot afford the inssurence or the treatment.

you do not always have to pay in money to gain your staffs respect. obviously they need a salary but you have to rememeber what they are working for. To put food on the table for themselves and maybe their family. To save enough for problems and having a happy working eviroment also helps.

I would prefer my quality staff to have medical inssurence because i would want them looked after. Simple if the staff look after their boss then the boss should look after them.

i would not offer the health insurence the moment they walk in the door they may have to have a trail 3 months first but it gives them something to aim for.

Also for your own sake make contracts to protect your self i ahve seen some stupid wanna be mafia characters try to threaten their girl friends boss after their girl friend has left on her own accord trying to get money out of the forang. Normally fornag on forang i have seen this.

yiu have a contact. if someone wants to resign then they hand in a resignaton notice which you would sign and agree and give them a copy. or if you want to sack someone then if it is in the contract that they can be sacked for serious things such as stealing or lack of respect for the boss then that shall help.

problem with sacxking someone for stealing is that you hd better have proof or they can counter sure you and pretend you made false accusations.

in this case it is just better to ask them to resign with a pay off. or set a trap where you can catch them.

like a bear trap. the put their hands in a cookie jar then BAM the gilloteen comes down on their heads. in the small print on the cookie jar have be care full of gillotine whilst openin this box. just so u r covered

Not heard this in any of the other posts in this topic. And have to say it makes a lot of sense to me. Earn a decent amount of money to enjoy your life here, have enough to send home to Mom, and also maybe have the ability for education. Family influences can be very significant, and I would bet this is an important factor in stiggy being able to retain staff for so long in what can be a very transient industry.

stiggy has kept his staff. if people want to know how to keep their staff then here is someone with experience. it might not be what you like to hear but it seems to work.

you may have to pay more and charge to the customer. if the customer is not happy with the price then maybe the quality of the food or service does not warrent the price. in this case the restaurent probably might have to close as you might have to cut your loses and close.

Thai people normally have an easier time with restaurents because they do not need to set up a company and employ loads of staff and pay allot of tax which means that they can charge cheaper and under cut forangs. the only chance a forang has in the restaurant business is to compete in the market for forang food. there again once you train a thai up in how to cook forang food then what is to stop them from going out and setting up on their own.

staff are like fish. specially the low ranking ones with no much brian poiwer.

if u give them open water they shall swim away as that is all the know.

so what do we do we use a net to catch them.

there u go. if your staff keep running away maybe u need a bigger net.

u keep it over the ceiling. when the staff start toi bolt then down comes the net.

other technque invlove gps taggs and electric shock collors . this helps to train your staff. it really helps them also not bite chickens.
