Just don't bother getting there at the advertised opening time of 08.30.

The officer handling visa extensions eventually showed up at gone 10am and was in no hurry to do her job, citing various reasons why a visa extension was not possible. TIT.

As always, patience and persistence eventually paid off.wai.gif

Just been to Suan Plu this saturday morning with all the papers, copies and money. Could not get any extension of stay. The officer told me that it can only be done at Chaeng Wattana except here for "urgency matter". I kindly insisted showing my tourist visa expiration date stating January 18th 2012 (so on wednesday) and telling her that I gonna leave Bangkok on Sunday for travelling in the north, moreover adding that my trip was booked already (transportation, hotel) and could not cancel.

Without success as she kept saying that I have to go to Chaeng Wattana anyway crying.gif

Mai pen rai this is Thailand, right information may change every single hour (or week at least in that example) laugh.png ... I will then have a nice boring trip to Chaeng Wattana early next week.

I didn't ask her what an "urgency matter" is, I assume it sould be when visa expires the same day you come... but to be safe I recommend everybody (other than Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar citizens) to forget Suan Plu in case of extension of stay or double-check call before going.

  1. It is not the tourist visa expiration date that matters for your application for extension of stay, but the expiration date of your current permission to stay, ie the "until" date in the arrival stamp in your passport. See here for a detailed explanation: http://www.immigrati...axpiredate.html
  2. If the expiration of your permission to stay is 18 JAN 2012, there is no need to postpone your trip to Chiangmai which you have scheduled for tomorrow, 15 January. You are free to apply at any immigration office in Thailand that does extensions of stay and Chiang Mai has an immigration office here:
    71 Moo 3
    Amphoe Mueang
    Chiang Mai 50200
    Phone 0-5320-1755-6

1. You are right I meant permission to stay allowed until 18 JAN 2012 not visa expiration date.

2. Actually I don't really go to CM, just tried to find a good case to get my passport stamped at Suan Plu avoiding Chaeng Wattana trip... thanks for advice anyway
