I am an Australian passport holder residing in Thailand and am looking to obtain a UK passport.

I have a UK birth certicate (born before 1983) and a Thai working visa.

Can anyone assist in outlining the steps i would have to take?

I believe you have to apply for 'Right of Abode' before beginning the passport application process?

Any help in clarifying this process would be much appreciated.

You don't have to apply for Right of Abode, that is something you have because you are British, and you don't have to apply to become British, you already are. See Chart A on P11 of this:-
