Krub Posted January 18, 2012 Share Posted January 18, 2012 I am looking for a Non-im O single entry visa in the region (near Sisaket in Isaan would be perfect) based on being over 50 and with a balance of more than 800k baht in a Thai bank Would Savvanakhet consulate give me one ? lopburi3 Posted January 19, 2012 Share Posted January 19, 2012 Both Vientiane or Savannakhet will provide single entry (which is what you want for a one year extension of stay using the 800k in two months). Some may need to know that US citizens can get a visa on arrival for Laos but you need a passport photo for the paperwork at the airport. The Lao visa fee is $36 US or 1500 THB. I'm not sure how they made that conversion but that's what they wanted and I only had THB. The Thai consulate was very easy to get along with and there is a shop just across the road that will do copies, passport photos, and complete the application for a nominal fee. I highly recommend it. We stayed at Savan Vegas. The room was ok but nothing spectacular. The casino reminded me of the one from the movie Vegas Vacation and I kept looking for the table to guess the number the man was thinking. The restaurants in the hotel are good but stay away from the lunch and dinner buffet. The only edible buffet meal was breakfast. Everything else smelled like feet or wet dog. The Dynasty chinese restaurant was excellent and the Silq Room was pretty good. If you do make a reservation at Savan Vegas, make sure you double confirm airport transportation if you need it. There are no taxis. I made our reservation through their website and requested airport pickup but it wasn't there when we got there. Savan Vegas has a cafe in the airport and they called for us. Eventually the hotel came and got us and promptly told me it was my fault because I did not call after I made the reservation through the website. I won't be staying there again. I had gotten a letter from Bangkok Bank signed by the manager and that was what they wanted. They also were not interested in any photos or our housebook. Most of the reports about Savvanakhet I remember reading are based on marriage to a Thai. The two are not the same animal...marriage and retirement Non O visas. Most Thai consulates in S.E. Asia won't give you a Non O except for marriage to a Thai. So can any of the true experts here actually confirm that Savvanakhet will actually issue a Non O visa based on retirement...not marriage? Have there been any recent reports of anyone being actually issued one in the past? I admit that I don't know, but I would hate to know the OP went to Savvanakhet and found out they wouldn't give him one based on retirement....only marriage. Lopburi, i also saw the reports of others going to savannakhet for multi entry non imm O visa based on marriage without showing proof of funds, i was planning on going there next month to get this visa, if they refuse me the visa for not having the funds in the bank can i get a single entry non imm O for marriage instead or will this also require funds in the bank? Bangkok Bank had a for letter ready for just this sort of thing so it must not be that uncommon. The man at the consulate asked for financial proof before he knew we had it. I also had my bank book and he rejected it saying it was too easy for people to fake them. I've heard if you lose your book you have to go to the police and file a report for a new one. And what if you fudge it up and the enhacement looks spurious? You are really screwed.
