Are Hotel Pools Safe?

Featured Replies

I've swam in pools in Thailand, and always wondered if there was some lurking parasite swimming in there with me.

Are hotels pools in Thailand generally safe, or do I bring the body condom?

some tourists have been electrocuted by faulty wiring to the pool lights.

no MCB and suitable earthing.

Some have experienced sudden erections. That's a worry.

I believe that a hotel pool in Phuket had a shark in it......

of course that was just after the Tsunami.... :o

The "manual" for my Rip Curl wet suit (surf) says: "Don't pee in the water, sharks can smell it from miles and want to get it's source".

Now friends, give the OP a break, his question is genuine.

Some parasites might be lurking for un-experienced first timer visitors and charge 2-3 times more for LT.

Otherwise, I am allergic to chlorine.

Go to a pool or hot tub place and ask for some chlorine test strips (litmus paper) They come several dozen to a bottle (size of a small pill bottle) for $10US or less. One dip into the water and the strip tells you the chlorine level by comparing the colour of the strip to the colour on the bottle. If there's enough chlorine, no parasite will live long.

Most pools are fine but the test strips may give you some piece of mind.

I had that problem ! Gotta love this country!

Some swimming pools are exactly the same as the hotel....................

.................nothing but a dive.

Right, well, pretty funny. Not much glaring brilliance, but fair creativity.

You can have your bandwidth back as I'm going to my special place now.

I would like to mention one pool which is perfect, and no problem with clorine, it is a saltwater pool, and very clean, have a look:http://www.phuketdir.com/pktpalaceresort/

Looks good, thank you for the link. I haven't been to Phuket in many years. Maybe my next trip I can put that hotel on the itinerary.

Steer clear of the Top North Hotel in Chiang Mai. Myself, son, mother and sister all got sick from it. Nothing we ate as we all ate the same food and the only ones in the party that never got sick didn't put their heads under the water.

I would definitely keep out of the pools with the "cigars" floating on the surface of the water!!!

Further to my first posting, here is a couple of pic's of what I think is the best pool in Phuket.

At resorts like Pattaya Park or Siam Park the water in the pool can get

quite "thick" on a busy day.

As sson as I get home I take a shower with a good disinfectant soap,

taking care to wash all the crevices.

It helps avoid itches and other nasties in the coming days.
