Shipping Goods From Us Advice Needed

Recommended Posts

I want to ship a few items I've bought and had had shipped to my brothers house in US. (camera lens/used computer) I saved nearly 1/2 the price of a RT ticket in buying them during Christmas as to convince myself I could offset the paying for a trip there. (Saved 15000 baht on one purchase) I've reconsidered and want to ship goods here now. What type of duties will I pay? Or anyone's recent experience in goods here. I've considered shipping to Singapore next month and then picking up on my visit there. Best way to keep costs down?

Can't help you with Singapore, but have read countless stories of problems with customs here. If you can get it into Singapore w/o customs charges, I'm guessing that's your best bet.

Would agree...shipping to Thailand.... be prepared to bend over and be rodgered good and proper by Thai customs..

I stand to be corrected...Singapore is a free port so you should be able to get them in there without import duty..

Ok, thanks.. Has kept me from ordering anything into Thailand. I'm curious how Amazon is approaching the situation as they are expanding into Asia market. I know some items get thru with no duty, but not sure if I'm taking that risk on this shipment..

Agree. I bought an expensive wetsuit over the internet and was horrified when Thai customs charged me 100% import duty!

When you buy anything on the internet from the US have it shipped USPS, not DHL, Fed Ex or UPS. I've bought two laptops, batteries, chargers, tools, etc and had everything shipped USPS and only paid 7%VAT on one computer. My company used to ship via DHL and Fed Ex and always got hit with extrodinary customs charges. I'm not saying you won't get hit, it's only my experience.
