Buriram, Lamphun Declared Drought Disaster Zones

Buriram Province is now reeling under the effects of drought, while relief centers have been set up in 23 districts to provide water and food to affected residents.

Meanwhile, many districts in Lamphun Province have been declared drought disaster zones.

Buriram Governor Kanit Iamrahong disclosed that Buriram Province has started to feel the effects of drought.

He has ordered 23 districts to set up relief centers to accommodate and provide immediate assistance to affected residents.

He expects that the drought situation this year will be worse than previous years.

Relief centers are initially providing water and food to affected residents as a top priority.

Elsewhere, in Lamphun Province, Lamphun's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation chief Chumporn Intathep has warned residents in agricultural areas in eight districts to watch for the upcoming drought, which is expected to arrive earlier and be worse than previous years.

Four districts have been declared drought disaster zones, namely Lee, Wiang Nonglong, Ban Hong and Muang.

Farmers have started to suffer from the lack of water, while water levels in main rivers of Lamphun Province are decreasing continuously, including Ping, Kuang, Tha, and Lee rivers.
