To Trick Or Decieve

Recommended Posts

I've come across a couple of examples of to trick or decive.

หลอก lòk - means to trick

หลอกหลอน

หลอกลวง

Also mean to trick, but in what context. I'm not so sure.

I think the first one means like a ghost tricking you and the second one maybe like a lover cheating on you.

Any other examples or comments?

Cheers

หลอก = make someone misunderstand or shock ; tease

ผีหลอก

เขาหลอกฉันว่า เขารักฉัน - he trick me, he said he love me (actaully he does not love me) (khao lhok chun wa khao rug chun)

หลอกหลอน = when somthing as illusion make you freak out (haunt ; frighten ; scare )

อุบัติเหตุครั้งนั้น ยังตามหลอกหลอน ชั้นอยู่ - from accident ,it still frighten me (oo-but-ti-hate krung nun yung tam lhok thon chun yoo)

ผีร้ายหลอกหลอนผู้คน- ghost haunt people (phee rai lhok lhon poo khon)

หลอกลวง = hide the truth ; lie make someone misunderstand

รัฐบาลหลอกลวงประชาชน Gov, trick people ..(by dont do follow the policy)(rut tha bal lhok luang pra cha chon)

ยานี้รักษาได้ทุกโรค อย่าเชื่อ มันเป็นสิ่งหลอกลวง - this drug claims it can cure every disease ..dont believe it,it;s just a trick (yaa nee tuk sa dai took roke, yaa cheu, mun pen sing lhok luang)

As in English there are plenty of words in Thai to do with deceit.

ตบตา- dtob dtar, to fool, deceive, literally slap the eyes

ต้มตุ๋น- dtom dtun, to fool, cheat, literally boil and steam

เพทุบาย- pae tubai, play a trick on

ตุกติก- dtukdtik, tricky, dodgy, untrustworthy

เเยบยล- yaeb yon, cunning,foxy

the last example is more positive, I believe,as it signifies intelligence as in strategy, rather than cheating.

Is the second example used more to refer to scams, plans that involve cheating?

I'm not sure how use of the first, third and fourth examples differ.
