I'm planning on getting a triple entry tourist visa from the UK.

Reading here I can extend for 30 days. On which entry/ies can this be done, or is that just a one time thing.

So I suppose my question is, On a triple entry tourist visa, how long can I make that last visa last, considering it has a 6 month validity from it's date of issue until it's date of expiry.

Many thanks in advance.

So I can extend each entry for 30 days at immigration for Bt 1,900?

When is the best time to do that? Towards the end of each entry or any time within the period?

Is there an immigration office in Chiangmai to do this or only in BKK?

thanks Lopburi for any advice.

You should do about a week before current stay ends - the start time will be the end of current stay. All entries must be made by the visa expiration date so if you obtain early that time will be lost if intending to stay a maximum period. Yes there is an immigration office in Chiang Mai (on road to airport but you should make appointments online under there new policy I believe so you would want to do that even earlier).

your maximum stay in thailand isn't 60 + 30 , 60 + 30 , 60 + 30

it's actually 6 months from issue then the day it expires you can pop out and back into thailand to use your last 60 + 30.

you can also have agap between the entries if you want to visit another country,

yes chiang mai a good place - you can do the border runs up at mae sai and the two or three extensions you choose can be done here too.

so if you apply for your visa say 10 days before you come to thailand your actual maximum time in thailand would look something like this :

arrive in thailand

60 + 30

border run

60 + 20 (cut short by 10 days because have to do border run before visa expires)

border run,

60 + 30

How do they do that when you make your second border run? Just go outside the country, get a stamp, come back and you are good for another 60+30?

You exit Thailand, enter another country (may involved getting visa/payment), exit and return to Thailand for a new 60 day tourist visa entry than can then be extended 30 days later.

So if you have a multiple entry tourist visa, then on your second visit you need to visit the thai consulate (lao) and return to thailand? Or do you just go to the lao side of the border, get a stamp and return therefore starting your next 60+30?

i think others have answered this question but here's some more info.

to activate each entry you just have to enter thailand from a different country, so when you first arrive that's the first one and when that runs out you have to leave and enter again and so on.

the visa has a validity (see enter before date written on the visa) - each entry has to be made with in this time.

as you know each entry can be exteded if you want .

most people who want to stay in thailand as much as possible just goto a border and check out and come straight back in,

if your based in chiang mai the best option is up at mae sai / burma - costs 500 baht to enter burma and takes approx. 4 hours to get there,

other places people go are :

burma 500 baht

malaysia free (maybe can get a cheap flight from CM)

laos 35$

cambodia 20$

with a triple entry you could extend all 3 entries but because the visa is only valid for 6 months you have to be aware of the 2 different dates and make sure you don't make a mistake when you do your last border run.

some people only extend one of the first 2 entries because they may have applied for the visa too soon or have spent time in a nieghboring country on there first border run and it's not cost affective to extend when your only getting a week or so out of it.

are you applying for the visa thru the post or in person ?

post doesn't take long but bare in mind weekends .

Activating a visa (run): Most travel agents can sell you a mini-bus return ticket from CM to Mai Sai, they pick you up at your address and bring you back to the same spot. My last one in mid November cost 400 baht, visa into Burma 500 baht. Nice trip, take some pictures, relax, and you’re home in time for dinner. Enjoy.
