saramsland
Hi, Does anyone have any experience with a good removalist company? I will be relocating from Bangkok to Phuket.
2unique
All my moves (5 in all including storage while my house was being built) have been done by Mike Ellis at Allied Pickfords - never had any complaints. A swarm of locusts descend, wrap n pack, then do it in reverse the other end. Plates into cupboards, clothes into wardrobes, books into bookcases and pron in the draws under the tv. onthemoon
I used Big Move, albeit within Bangkok. They were very cheap, but nevertheless did a very good job. http://www.bigmovethai.com/eng/index.asp
Nisa
Sorry can't help you but I have to say I do like the word "removalist" ... I don't think I have ever heard that term in the US but it is cool. I would much rather be or higher a removalist than a mover. Kind of makes me think there is going to be magic tricks involved :-)

Would make a great film title: "The Removalist!"

tombkk
Let's remember that not everyone in this forum is a native speaker. Saramsland, please don't take offense, these people don't mean any harm, I'm sure. Actually, I think the word "removalist" as a "removal specialist" makes a lot of sense and should be added to the English language.
kurnell
Capital Relocations 02 925 2599, info@ capital-thailand. com, door to door, full service. Sorry, but a relocations company is not a removal company. A relo company handles home/school search, work permits etc. and if a removal service is required, they sub contract it to a removal company and take a cut. Yes, absolutely no offense should be taken regarding my ignorance of the word but I truly am happy to have learned the word. I can't wait to use it back in the US and have folks think I made it up only to find it is a real word ... and a very cool sounding word at that :-)

I've been in the removal business 15 years and for AFAIK the word removal is acceptable slang. They actually use the word on their trucks in many country's. I agree this word could be misinterpreted. Sorry, but a relocations company is not a removal company. A relo company handles home/school search, work permits etc. and if a removal service is required, they sub contract it to a removal company and take a cut. Well that´s not true. Many relocations/removal companies doing the full service package. The one we used did the full service package.

I know of several companies in Thailand and Europe who have both services incl. and offer the full service pack. We used ABS Relocations and they did offer the full service pack. But we only needed the removal part.
kurnell
I can simplify this. A bloke, sitting in an office with his secretary/accountant, sub-contracting every facet of the business to other companies (competitors) is not a professional removals company. I can open a business tomorrow, call myself "Really Good Relo", throw out a few ads and easily use sub-contractors to pack a container of household goods and ship them to any city in the world. But!!! If the shit hits the fan who do you complain to? Are any of these fly by night "relo" companies members of any associations that guarantee quality?? Will their insurance cover you for Johnny Somchai's dodgy packing company or some moving agent that is going bankrupt? I doubt it.
bubba
Just wanted to revive this thread, as I have a local move coming up. Looks like the Big Move site (http://www.bigmoveth...m/eng/index.asp) is down, so I am not sure they are still around. Any other recommendations since this thread was last updated a year ago? jes
I can recommend http://www.abs-relocations.com/en/ We used them twice. First from Denmark toUdon Thani and then from Udon Thai to Bangkok.
