I had the Dr give me 5mg did not do anything so I self medicated up to 20mg and that is working great. I have no issues with cough.

Some of these meds are pretty serious stuff - I was freaking out when I was reading about them and what might be the next step if Enalaril did not work.

I'd say be careful about mixing them all up, take your time and make certain that one medications effects are out of your system before you start a another.

I don't know anything about Moduretic but its all serious stuff. Are you otherwise in great health that shoveling gravel is a non issue?

Consistent excercise is a great leveler with this problem. Even walking helps a bit. Sitting about and sitting about drinking and eating poorly is a great way to stroke.

Not sure if you're talking about yourself, or commenting on mine. The Dr upped my Adalat to 20, and started me on Moduretic. Postural hypotension so bad, I stopped Moduretic after 2 days, and will only take it if my BP goes up again. 3 days and it's still way down.

Been shovelling all my life, so I guess I'm OK doing it. No heart problems that I know about.

Thanks for the contributions.

OMG! 210/120 !!!!! Lucky you got it down.....I was on Adalat and after a year or so became VERY allergic to it. Broke out in a miserable rash. I've been on Nifedipine and Lisinopril for a few years now and doing great.....Not supposed to deplete my Potassium but it does so when I start to get leg cramps I take a Potassium and Magnesium together and the cramps are gone in 20 minutes......So obviously it works.Gawd I hate getting old..... My body is wore out but my mind is still young. Really sucks.

<My body is wore out but my mind is still young. Really sucks>

Ain't that the truth!

I can't believe that western governments think they can increase the age of pension eligibility over 65. I'm not that old, and my body is wasted- can't believe that so many over 65s are capable of labour, and where's all the easy jobs if that's not the case.

No, I was conveyng my situation but that is moot becasue you have a serious, serious situation.

Good luck with it - If you have the funds, I would seek treatment back home, then you can do the mnt here. If not, I'd still seek out a specialist at one of BKKs best hospitals.

I could not agree more about increasing pension ages. People have genetic health issues, work/related issues - not to mention people that simply get outsourced and are put to pasture. But hey - there are wars to fund and corporate taxes to cut...

If you're looking for a good cardiologist in Chiang Mai, Dr Patarapong at RAM is excellent and Dr Surin at Sriphat has national fame.

Thanks for the concern. However, my BP is excellent now- only the postural hypotension is a worry, but that may be because I've had high BP for a long time, and my body is unnacustomed to the lower pressure. I always did have the occasional postural dizziness on standing for many years anyway. I have my own BP monitor. Cost 5,000, and worth every baht. I'd hate to have to run off to the hospital all the time just to check my BP.

Still not taking the moduretic, though that may not be necessary because the heat is making me sweat a lot, which would have the same effect.

Now, if someone can make my body feel as young as my mind, I'll be a happy chappy, LOL.

Anyone have any experience with Loranta, I've just been prescribed it and the early signs are very positive?

I've been on hypertension medication for almost 4 years now. Been through a number of proprietary medications, with a number of side effects, such as the cough (and ED - thought I was just getting too old!).

Changed, about 18 months ago, to generic medication and find them not only a lot cheaper but have also lost the side effects.

Am now on Loranta - "Lorsartan" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Losartan) and Carvedilol - "Caraten" (http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Carvedilol), with Simvastatin (http://en.wikipedia....iki/Simvastatin) for Cholesterol and, of course, "baby" Aspirin - get them via a chemist in Tesco-Lotus.

BP down from 150+/90+ to as low as (most recently) 100/52 on occasions.

PS also lost a fair bit of weight - 36Kg (by diet only - minimal exercise).

I've been on Loranta now for almost 2 years, with no side effects other than an occasional postural hypotension (low BP) during the hot season out here.

I suspect the hypotension to be really due to dehydration, as a few minutes in the car with the A/C on and a cold drink and I'm fine! Loranta worked fine for me. It may or may not work for others.

PS As previously posted, I was recommended Loranta by a clinic in Chiang Mai (details can be sent via a PM if interested).
