I am not technical in WiFi and mobile comunication.

The iPhone can create WIFI with the "personal hotspot" feature and G3.

Other devices can connect to this WiFi.

Why the iPhone can not create its own WiFi?

Thanks for those very good explanations, and I'm apologize if my question give you an headache.

Anyway, I can't link into my own WiFi (personal hotspot).

Apples ios5 has this feature built in on 5.0.1 or higher. Depending on your provider to enable it however, go into settings and see if one of the top choices is "Internet sharing" - dtac allows it. You can connect via wifi, USB or Bluetooth like a wifi hotspot.

The headache was caused by you asking a question that you had already answered, i.e. "The iPhone can create WIFI... Why the iPhone can not create its own WiFi?"

Anyway, now you've rephrased it; what device are you trying to connect to the iPhone? And at what stage is it not connecting?

Actually, don't mean to nitpick, but the Personal Hotspot feature has been around since iOS 4.3 (Internet Tethering via USB or Bluetooth has been around since iOS 2.0), but its availability is, and always has been, determined by your particular carrier (like the ability to change your APN).

I think what he means that while the phone will create WiFi via 3G, it can't use its own WiFi, as it uses the 3G, and I think that may disallow him from using a particular program or feature. Perhaps FaceTime?

Exactly 'mogandave'. That was my question. I'm not a native English speaker. It seems the iPhone can only create WiFi for other devices.

And jamesbrock, sorry to cause you so much head problems about my question.

Unplug the powerboard that your TV & DVD is plugged into, and plug it into itself... Then watch a DVD.

This is what you are wanting the iPhone to do.

Now you cause me a headache with your answer. angry.png

For others:

The iPhone can not create WiFi for itself in areas where is no WiFi. In order to use FaceTime, Skype or other apps who need WiFi, it has to be jailbroken.

Anyway, there was an app who could tether, but Apple removed it.

"Create WiFi for itself" - <deleted>. I dont think this has to do with language difficulties, I think it has to do with some confusion as to what the hotspot feature does.

Hotspot shares your 3G connection via WiFi - it makes the phone into a little WiFi router backed by the 3G connection.

You're still connected via 3G, and programs that don't work over 3G still don't work. Skype by the way works over 3G. FaceTime doesn't.

However, a computer or iPad or even other iPhone connected to your iPhone hotspot via WiFi could use FaceTime...

Nikster is completely correct. The thai carries do not seem to block wifi sharing so perhaps thats why I never noticed it until 5.0.1.

If you want to use wifi only programs like Skype just jailbreak 5.0.1 (untethered, so can reboot, no worries) and buy my3G which tricks the apps that you are on wifi always with only 3G. honestly only recommended on TRUE 3G H+, I can’t get it to work properly on dtac 3G as the latency is too high.
