Travel Freebies

Featured Replies

Not sure if this belongs in the Thai Visa Travel forum, but I wanted to share my little travel story with you and see if any other members have had any other similar experiences.

I was in Bangkok and had to return back to Sydney urgently. I went to the airport and asked what the next plane back to Sydney was. They said there were major airline problems with Qantas jets broken down in Ausralia and I could only buy a ticket to Melbourne and then talk to staff there to try and get another ticket to Sydney but expect there would be long delays. I paid a massive 7600 baht with jetstar with luggage included AND I had an entire row of empty seats on the flight meaning I laid down the whole way.

At Melbourne I went up to the counter and said I just came from Bangkok and understood there was an airline shortage but I needed to go onward to Sydney. The lady behind the counter then printed me a ticket for the flight to Sydney. When I opened my mouth to say that I hadn’t actually paid for it, she interrupted me before I could speak and said I needed to hurry or I would miss the flight.

So that was truly the best airfare I have ever scored. What was the best travel freebie you ever got?

That was pretty good. I once got an upgrade from economy to first for free. It was my honeymoon and the flight attendants poured top notch champagne the entire flight (US to UK) and even gave us a bottle to take with us. Great flight. Too bad the marriage didn't go as well! laugh.png

When I was in the navy all the flights I took on leave were paid for by the Australian government, the best one was Sydney to London business class, nothing out of pocket, plus I was paid to go where the tourists pay to go.

Regularly get free upgrades, but that's because I'm a platinum Qantas member. Curiously, most of the upgrades tend to be on Cathay flights.

I got an upgrade to business class on Luftwaffe on the return leg HCMC to Bangkok after the flight to HCMC had to return to Bangkok due to a flap problem (as advised by the sexy stewardess) with champers and red wine.

I often score upgrades on a Friday afternoon from Aberdeen to Norwich after a stint offshore, sad thing is there is no first/business class on the plane just lots of free beer in the lounge before hand.

I used to get upgrades to first class just about every flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong when returning to Canada each year.

I once missed my connection with Saudia, flying BKK-LHR, so got put onto a flight to FRA instead.

On-arrival in Frankfurt, they were booking us onto Pan-Am (shows how long ago this was !) to connect to LHR, I wanted Non-Smoking & the only non-smoking seats left were in First-Class, so I got the involuntary-upgrade to First !

Happy memories !

Never happened again though, most airlines are now non-smoking throughout, just to prevent me from doing it ever again ! laugh.pngviolin.gif

I once got an upgrade from business to first class on Cathay from Hong Kong to Mumbai and return.

I had never flown first and I had always wondered what would be different from business to first.

I quickly learned that it is very different and the service was more than superb.

my flight was delyed to thailand and i got a free egg sandwich.
