Official Vows Free Wi-Fi On 2 Bangkok Expressway Stages

Featured Replies

This is a good service for passengers and also for drivers. For example if someone wishes to listen internet radio via mobile device. Naturally this can even be done with EDGE/UMTS connection. Another thing is to load map tiles to clients which need to access the network.

But how the network will be done? WLAN does not have very long range. There will be huge amount of devices, which are accessing the network. This means there will be huge amounts of handovers from one base station to another.

Try WMax.

WiMax? That was pretty much forgotten technology even before it came to the markets. :)

Not many devices support WiMax either. Well.. there would be good bandwith for each.

They say

"could cause them to take their focus off driving,"

Now that has to be the understatement of the year.

Is it April1

Could, not really as they are not focused on their driving anyhow. Well most of t hem.

I stand corrected

Another reason why i dont live bangkok.what a CRAZY plan.but this is a crazy country governed by crazy people:angry:mad.gif

Please don't come to Thailand.

They should try to provide Wi-Fi on the Skytrain, Subway, and the buses (or maybe they already do). That would at least provide a little more incentive to use mass transit. Wi-Fi on the expressways is a disaster in the making - there will inevitably be drivers using the internet and lead to crashes.

Next years headline. "Driver slams into minibus on expressway, killing 9, while viewing porn". Charges dropped due to "lack of evidence" and ties to high ranking policemen. Still the Deprtments of Culture and Information Technology are so offended by the crime they shut down another 1,500 websites.

People may use this free wifi to access Facebook, which would lead to more pregnant teenagers and taxi drivers. crazy.gif

The mind boggles, it really does.

I haven't read the posts to this topic yet, but have to say, this is the most stupid thing I've heard this week. However the week is young, I'm sure another beauty will pop up before the week is out.

I read the OP 3 times looking for the word "SATIRE" hidden away somewhere in the article....

Got to be be one of more dumber ideas they have come up with...

Maybe a new hub in the offing...the regional hub for highway wifi

Super TROLL article...Go for it Boys !

Even got you in! ;-)

Super TROLL article...Go for it Boys !

Do like Thai officials: be passenger in a Toyota grey van with a driver,

Recruit a driver so you can play with Internet and Facebook, it will reduce unemployment....

Surely free wifi can be made available in more places where it can be genuinely useful rather than expressways or am I missing something?

still 2000 schools in thailand with no electricity or clean water but this is a priority. wth.

so as well as dealing with drugged up minivan drivers, we also have to contend with them surfing the net whilst driving. cowboy.gif
