Thai Id Card Renewal

Featured Replies

My wife forgot and let here ID card renewal lapse, expired about a year ago. She is from Chonburi but moved to Chiang Mai Hang Dong district many years ago and changed it to Chiang Mai. A few weeks ago she was in Chonburi and checked on getting it renewed and they said they can't and she has to go to Bangkok. She tried the Hang Dong office and they said the same, that is she has to have the Poo Yai Bahn go with her to Bangkok to fix it. She says she is nameless now. huh.png That is she can't do anything that requires a valid ID such as buying a MC, opening a bank account, etc.

Is anyone familiar with the process of renewing an expired ID? Is it as complicated as I outlined above? She said it was more difficult then getting a birth certificate.

Does she have a tabian baan, blue house book?

If not whose is she on, may have to renew in the province she is registered.

She was on one at a house her sister was renting in Chiang Mai but the owner has left a long time ago so at the moment she is not on one as she has changed her residency to Chiang Mai. She's really worried about this as someone could decide to register with her name and do something illegal (identity theft). She just did some googling and appears what she has been told is correct so looks like she's off to Bangkok. From the sounds of it she is not on the best of terms with the Poo Yai Bahn so don't know how that will go. Going to be an expensive 'repair' job. sad.png
