Looking For An Apartment In Bangkok

Got to spend more time in Bangkok again, so I think about renting some small apartment instead of hotels.

Requirements: Sukhumvit area preferred, BTS access is a must. 1 Bedroom Studio, WiFi...Max 8,000 a month, otherwise hotels would be more attractive. My office is in Sukhumvit Soi 26, so take this as the epicentre and the closer to it, the more attractive!

Alternative: Since a friend of mine is also looking for something similar we were thinking about sharing a 2 bedroom apartment, max budget here is 16,000. For thee 2 bedroom place a swimming pool is a must.

If anyone of you have some leads where to look, would be much appreciated!

Well, wait a second. You said "1 Bedroom Studio", which is a bit of a non-sequitur. A one bedroom apartment has a separate bedroom and living room, whereas a studio is just one big room, with a separate bathroom only. The studio is actually a possibility at THB8000/m, but I wouldn't expect to find a one bedroom anywhere near Sukhumvit or the BTS at anywhere near that price.

And while we're on the subject, how would a hotel be attractive at the 8000 baht price point? I doubt you could find ANY hotel in that area for a month for less than 20000, unless you consider a short-time place, which would STILL be more than 8000.

Very few apartments have FREE WiFi, but some have the pay-as-you-go type, which is another 5-700 baht per month.

AND - beware the places that charge 7 baht or more per unit for electricity, rather than the metered rate. That can add 2K or more to your monthly nut.

Also, you don't mention how long you'll be staying, and MOST reasonably priced apartments want at least a 6 month contract, if not a year.

In short, some of your requirements don't add up. Better think it through, and be a little more specific about your needs. Many places to search on-line, but walking the streets is by far the best way to find cheap apartments.

Good luck.

I would stay there only two nights a week. A hotel would cost about 1500 a night or 12,000 a month. Comes with breakfast and wifi and after I'm gone someone will clean it up.

That's why I say, not more than 8k a month, otherwise the hotel is more attractive :)

Hard to figure how an apartment would be better than a hotel given those circumstances?

You're going to have to lay on a deposit, pay for water, electricity; probably have no reasonable WiFi, no pool/gym, few furnishings (crappy mattress), no breakfast, have to clean, probably be less safe/secure, be farther away from the office.

You might want to consider a hotel chain where you can accumulate points, status, free stays, perks and then room upgrades.

I agree - a hotel is your best bet. Apartments are tricky minefields to negotiate. Maybe you can work out a 'frequent sleeper' discount at one of the less touristy places.

Thanks for clearing it up.

If you go up 31 where Abby used to live follow your nose to the end near the canal, I had a friend staying in a condo there and paying 8000 a month, don't know the name or what it was like but it's a start

SK Mansions. Stayed there for 2 months, December and January. 8700 baht a month. Internet 750 a month. Bedding 500 baht but you can of course bring your own kit To the left Thong Lor BTS 100 meters. To the right an Olympic size swimming pool, must be a member 600 meters. Google it for more info. I am going back there on Saturday ( from Pattaya ) for 3 nights 700 baht a night

thanks, will have a look at it. So you end up at about 10,000 Baht all in. Plus breakfast.

Didn't think about the deposit, valid point, especially it is almost impossible to recover it - by my past experience.

in on nut there are many options for 5k, but you have to take a motorbike like 10 minutes.

if you walk you have near few places for like 6000 small rooms, but you need to rent long term like 6 months, on nut has many options, but as i said, you need to walk a bit

i paid 13000 plus costs, total 18000 per month for 45 sq m room, but it was worth it, attracted chicks like moths are attracted to light, the receptionists were saying behind m back, oh he is bringing a new girl again .....

Had a look at SK Mansions. A bit too basic, especially the bathroom which is the have a shit and shower at the same time style. The Mattress was the rubber covered kind.

The quest is still on...now staying in Soi 33, S33 hotel, 1,450 a night. Nice room, breakfast better elsewhere.

Try the Contempt soi 71 thecontemp.com or Nasa Vegas apartments

Will do, although this is already a bit out of the way. 71 has a terrible traffic jam in the morning....maybe can go through the backsois, though, worth a check.

This morning I looked at the Boss Tower in Rama 4, 13,000 for a small room that was in dire need of renovation. Another building in Soi 36 had no parking spot.
