My wife and I will be holidaying in Kuala Lumpur for one week in early May. As this takes in the Thai school holidays we wish to take her 12yo Thai grandson with us. Both his parents are agreeable but I'm sure certain documentation would be required to make everything legal. Has anyone done this before and what paper work was needed. Thanks.

Well, Thai passport, I reckon.

Plus a to-whom-it-may-concern letter signed by BOTH parents authorizing you and your wife to take him out of Thailand.

Plus copies of both parents' ID cards, signed by them.

Plus copy of their blue tambien ban, also signed by them.

Plus (how about this one??) a group photo of all five of you, also signed by both parents.

And, just to be sure, see if you can get the letter above chopped off by someone at your local tamboon or amphur.

Above is probably overkill but best to have more than needed rather than a document short. We had a problem taking my wife's adopted nephew over to Vientiane a few years ago. Finally they relented and let him accompany. Would have been easy if we'd just have had the adoption certificate.

Does the grandson have a passport yet ? If not the kid's parents would have to get the passport issued personally.

Should not have much of an issue for traveling since he is with the grandma.
