U.S. added 3.9 million jobs in past 2 years

2012-03-11 07:26:14 GMT+7 (ICT)

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- The United States economy added approximately 233,000 private sector jobs last month while the unemployment rate held steady at a three-year low of 8.3 percent, the U.S. Labor Department (DoL) said on Friday.

In its February 2012 Employment Situation report, the DoL also pointed out that the country's private sector job growth has added jobs for 24 straight months, totaling to more than 3.9 million jobs.

"To an economy that was bleeding almost 800,000 jobs in a single month when President Obama took office," Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis noted, the U.S. job growth over the last six months has been the strongest since before the recession began in 2006.

According to the DoL, February's accelerated job growth was widespread across a range of industries, including 82,000 new jobs in professional and business services, 61,000 in health care and social assistance, 44,000 in leisure and hospitality, and 31,000 in manufacturing.

"The continued growth in the manufacturing sector is encouraging," Solis said. "This industry, which lost more than 2 million jobs through the recession, has added back 429,000 positions in the last two years."

Solis underlined that the U.S. could make 'great strides' if the country acts on President Obama's proposal to forge new partnerships between community colleges and businesses so employers in high-growth industries can put Americans in jobs requiring specific technical skills.

However, the report also shows that the construction sector has been of continued concern, as it lost 13,000 jobs in February. Solis expressed enthusiasm despite the numbers, adding that President Obama has put forward a specific plan to develop the nation's infrastructure, which is expected to have an immediate effect on this industry and the workers who depend on it.

"We need to build and modernize roads, rails, runways and schools, which would create thousands of good jobs in short order. Infrastructure investments are sorely needed across the country, and our unemployed construction workers deserve a bipartisan deal and the jobs it would bring," she stated.

...and the official unemployment rate is still 8.3%.

The unofficial rate is something over 14% but nobody knows for certain.

I agree but the way the stats are determined apply no matter who is in power. People are starting to feel things really are going in a good DIRECTION now. Two term Obama -- it's in the bag.

You must mean the cheerleaders that are expats?

Because here in the USA nobody I know feel things are going in a good direction.

Perhaps come home & eat some of this cake you want to bake before pronouncing it delicious.

Add to that he doesn't really have any competition! laugh.png

It is obvious from your posting history that the people you hang out with are Obama averse and fixed in that state.

Don't know? Have not kept up with anything he has said.

Did Obama win your STATE last time? If not, he won't again. My home voting state is total red. My presidential vote is irrelevant.

Plenty of people are hurting for sure, but plenty are doing really well. Depends on where you are in the US. SW is not doing good at all, but other areas are doing very well.

If Romney wins the Republican nomination, we've got Osama (oops) Obama again for sure. It's a sad comment to make but the American people aren't ready or willing to have a Morman president, besides the fact that Romney flip-flops around like a fish out of water. Also what those reports don't say is how many of those jobs paid higher than minimum wage. Not a whole heck of a bunch I'm betting.

Today's Rasmussen Report:

1. Romney - 48%

Obama - 43%

2. Santorum - 46%

Obama - 45%

Maybe some should hold up on ordering the celebratory champagne until November?partytime2.gif

Continuing your posting signature:

Those that voted for him in 2008 because they are racist will vote for him again because his race (I think you know which half I mean) has not changed.

Rasmussen is a very biased RIGHT WING polling organization. And that's the best they can do. Good luck! giggle.gif Also, as we know, the popular vote does NOT count. Edited by Jingthing

Neither of them can beat Obama. Especially Santorum, I'll eat my keyboard if that happens. Only the second tier candidates are even running this year, no one with a shot of winning wants to risk their career by losing to Obama.

Romney can win if he can buy a personality. passifier.gif

Right now, Obama is popular enough, and Romney unpopular enough — Americans truly detest Romney — that it seems safe to say that he is winning. What’s more, the direction of the economy seems likely to improve his standing further still. Something would have to change for Obama to lose.

Red states are right wing republican states (all of the south except Florida which swings). Blue states generally reliably vote democratic. Which means they are more centrist/moderate (like Obama), but the right wingers call them socialist. The U.S. doesn't really have a viable left wing in the European sense. So where I can vote now, as long as I live, my vote for president will never mean a thing. It only matters in competitive states where either side can potentially win. Edited by Jingthing

I can't find the link now, I wish I could. On Business Insider Dot Com yesterday someone made THIRTY different significant points about how the employment picture is incredibly worse than it was 5, 10 and even 15 years ago. It was f'ing shocking. This story is bullshit.

Oh, it really is horrible. But no politician has the power to radically change the fundamentals at this point. The expectations have been realistically lowered.

Reds against Blues?

I thought the color red was outlawed in the US.

Of course they've been lowered amongst the cognoscenti, but they tell lies repeatedly to the the electorate/proles. You may think that's clever politics but is in fact obscene. It could lead to revolution in due time. I know you can't conceive of that but maybe it's because you've not studied history enough and lived in relatively affluent times.

The best hope for America's future remains Obama, not the radical right wing! People are already adjusting to the idea of less affluence and no guaranteed hegemony just being born American. Edited by Jingthing
