1. Does anyone know the current exchange rate when cashing in a US $ traveler's check for Baht?

2. I recall reading elsewhere in this forum that there is a 33 baht service fee for each traveler's check you cash. Is this correct?

Thanks for any info.

1. The rate varies several times a day and between banks. Right now it is running between 40 and 41 baht per USD.

2. There is a fee (but been years since I have used and don't recall the amount) so best to bring large denominations.

Today's rate looks like 40.84.

The fee remains 33 baht per TC cashed, regardless of denomination. This total is actually made up of two separate fees, one is 30 baht and the other is 3 baht.

Don't bring small denominations like 20s or 50s, the charge is PER CHECK.

There is no way around it, ALL banks charge it.

Exchange rate can vary constantly, a few satang per hour. Samesame all currencies everywhere, nature of the beast.

Don't get twisted up over getting 4034 baht/$100 or 4026baht/$100.

Thanks, guys. You're a great help.

Last question: I'm assuming the most favorable net exchange rates (net amount in my pocket after calculating rate and fees) will be at a bank. Rather than any of place/entity that may exchange money in Thailand.

Y'all think my assumption that the bank will provide the most favorable exchange is correct?
