Hi All,

Apologies if this has been done before.

I was just interested to know how much have people shown in the past to prove that their Thai partner won't need to use public funds in the UK i.e. how much cash did you have to show in a ready to use bank account during your application for a Settlement visa.

I believe one gentleman got a Settlement visa for his Thai wife with 8000 pounds sterling, anyone got one with less than that? How much realistically should I aim to have?

Cheers

There is no set amount for savings. The emphasis is on your ability to support your spouse financially when she arrives in the UK. This normally shown by your income. ECOs cannot put much weight on savings, unless they are substantial, as savings can be spent fairly easily and/or quickly. We have obtained visas where the sponsor has an overdraft, so each application must be looked at on its merits.

If you have a regular income from a job, then you should be able to show that you can support your spouse when she arrives in the uk ( unless your outgoings are more than your income ).

imho ECOs will also be wary of "cash in bank accounts" with no other proof of income or income potential

it is all too easy to "borrow" cash, place this in the sponsor's account for a few months, and then transfer it back to the owner once the visa application is submitted

I had cash but no job (I'm retired) when my wife applied for her settlement visa, but I was very careful to prove its origin with documents submitted and a full explanation in my sponsor's covering letter
