Hi all.

I am a dinosaur and still like to actually write letters to friends on real paper using a real pen. I have the pen but am looking for some quality stationary like Cranes or similar. Anyone know of a place to get it in CM or, if necessary, in BKK?

Any help appreciated.

Central and Robinson come to mind. Second option the big book stores like DK and Suriwong. And dedicated stationery stores, like the one near the Irish Pub, or Lanna.....something near the old teacher college on Chang Phuak Rd (opposite side)

(Lanna Samut I think it's called. Very old-Chiang Mai shopping experience those stores.)

Correction: Samut Lanna: https://foursquare.com/v/%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%A1%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%A5%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%99%E0%B8%B2/4cd7c062145fa1cd26e702bd

Thanks WTK. Sounds like a shopping tour is in order when the smoke clears a bit. Heard rumors that we might get a bit of rain the next few days. We can only hope.

I'm sure Central (at Kad Suan Keaw) has two REAL pen shops. One in B2S and another in the department store section of Central on 1st Fl just next to where they sell watches.

B2S in Robinson also sells real pens.

There is one about 200 feet down from the night Bazaar on Thai Pai road.

It is on the right hand side coming from the Night Bazaar and has a huge awning.

My wife had cards of her art work printed and we’re looking for higher quality envelopes.

Here’s where they are not…B2S, Kad Suan Keaw, art store next to U.N. Irish Pub, old art store on Ta Pae Road, Surawong and DK bookstores. The store next to the U.N. Irish Pub had them but they’ve run out and aren’t getting any more.

Only place I haven’t been is the art store down Chan Puak Road.

Any other suggestions?

Did you try the stationary store on Thai Pai road less than 200 feet on the right hand side going from Chang Klang (the night Bazaar) to the moat?

No luck there. What I am looking for is high quality bond paper such as Crane's or similar that I can write on with a fountain pen. Those grades of paper will handle liquid ink without bleeding or spreading. I too have been to all the locations Luther mentioned plus a few in Bangkok on this last trip. No luck there either.

I know the paper you want. I used to have a lawyer friend who was a fanatic about quality paper, expensive Mont Blanc fountain pens, etc. But if you could not find it in Bangkok I doubt you will find it here.

Have you considered ordering some on-line or having a friend in America or Europe sending you a package?

Tell you where i go for top quality paper, and no one mentioned it.

The stationer/print store at the side of 3 king monument....so at the traffic lights, school behind you, KM on left, the big printer on right.

The quality of paper and colour i need has to be robust, I buy it as A3 size and they print on it for me., but if they dont have A4 or smaller they will guillotine it.

ask to see their examples of paper....dont go after 3pm, full of the school kids getting all their work copied.

so sad that you wanted to write that "billet doux" last march and still out of luck

Hadn't thought about that place. Great for copying everything. I had huge fold-out schematic diagrams copied there and many other odd sized technical documents.

The one thing that is weird there and everyone should know is that you never pay the employee who is helping you, even though they calculate the costs and try and collect the money. Always pay one of the people who sit next to the Chinese looking cutie who owns the place. The employees are allowed to charge higher prices and keep the commission! They charge as much as 50% more. It really adds up on a big order.

Its not weird? there must be 100 staff working there, several are graphic designers, other just photocopying, others upstairs as you say on the "dieline" /xerox plan copiers.

I always go to the same girl; she drops everything for me (lucky me)giggle.gif and promtly inserts my usb. sometimes we do the editting together on her screen; but only the desingner knows how long they will spend on a project, hence thats why they sometimes quote.

Usually I pay 200bt for girls time plus the cost of the paper/amount of coloured ink.

if you want hundreds of flyers then just one of the reception desk girls will quote you for those.
