Dario Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 In how many days do you usually have used up your 1GB high speed? 30 days. My application is smartphone/mobile broadband. I have DSL, and WiFi, at home, where I might download ~ 250 GB each month. Now I understand that Internet for your PC is not an issue at all. For me it's a completely different story at my upcountry home where I have no other options. Next week I'll be at my Pattaya home and there I still have TRUE 9MB
Online Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Five days have passed and still no email reply or contact from Dtac! Guys, please stay away from this company.
4evermaat Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 The beginning of the end of anything resembling fair pricing. I was surprised that they (I use True-H - 384kbps) throttled at all, and didn't just cut off / revert to "per Mb" pricing as most of the gsm providers in the so-called "developed world" do. Sad to see the end of a realistically throttled speed here. Hope True-H don't follow suit too soon. It would be very smart of them not to, they'd probably get a very healthy uptake of "churn" (industry term for people ISP/Provider hopping) as people run away from AIS & DTAC. Sadly that would mean their pipes getting clogged faster and them seizing the opportunity once they've got a bunch of people on board to also start more severe throttling. The markup on data on 3g is quite staggering if you do the math, rivalled only by the profit margin on an sms... In Malaysia, Digi actually has some caps on the maximum per day charges if you don't have any plan at all. They also have reasonable fair use caps. First time I've ever seen that, as normally the only protection you usually have is keeping a low balance on your phone. CAT is much better and I haven't been throttled at all. AIS was a joke they throttled me after 10 days into the billing period same usage and no throttling on CAT. msgtb Posted with Thaivisa App http://apps.thaivisa.com Are you referring to My by CAT (hspa) or the CAT CDMA (cdma)? I can confirm CAT CDMA is still unlimited and I still get 2-3Mbps down most days. Since I am still on waiting list for landline service, I decided to use CAT for downloading big files, and Truemove H/My by Cat for regular browsing.
4evermaat Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Actually the OP is not correct, except in one case. Yes, DTAC/Happy did change the terms on one, single unlimited package, 399 baht/1 GB. Previously the fair-use speed was 384 kbps, now it is 64 kbps. I changed to this plan when it was first introduced, and when I saw this change a few weeks ago (I did highlight it in one or more relevant threads) registered a complaint and was informed my package will be honored, so 384 Kbps for me. It remains to be seen if they actually do that, but I am also a bit careful on usage switching to WiFi where available. All of DTAC/Happy's other unlimited plans retain the 384 Kbps fair-use speed (daily, weekly, 3 GB and 5 GB). AIS/One-2-Call's unlimited plans (3 GB, 5 GB) retain the 384 Kbps fair-use speed. TrueMove H's unlimited plans (3 GB, 5 GB and 10 GB) all have a fair-use speed of 128 Kbps. http://www.happy.co....mid=368〈=en http://www.ais.co.th...rnet-package/#2 http://www.truemove-...ay-topping.aspx Hi everyone, well, I'm on a TRUE-H 999 Baht 5GB unlimited package and always enjoyed 300+ KB/s beyond. BUT: since last night about 20:00 I get almost nothing, only about 20-30 KB. Sometimes nothing, that I can't even see who's online on Skype. It was so all day long today and still is. I just spent quite some time with the TRUE 1331 service. I was told that they are applying "fair usage policy. Yes, I said, but that is 384KB. Yes, but 384 KB is the maximum, but if there are many users in your area that speed can drop. I askedKhun Tamaiporn who was the Senior officer in charge (supervisor was in a meeting) to check if they were doing some work in my area (northern Surin province) which could be the culprit. She said there was nothing reported. So, they might throttle down at TRUE-H as well! If that is true, what a bunch of loonies. I can confirm that after I went over my 3GB fair use on the True H prepaid plan, I got throttled down to between 9-16KB/s. This was downloading from a seedbox using http (not bittorrent). I had to pause to view websites, which i had to consider turning off images so that the websites could load quickly . I just spoke to Dtac, the girl said to me that they had to drop to 64 kbps because people were abusing the service... Why am I not surprised by this How can people abuse the service if it is being capped? That is the whole point of the cap. I think the bigger issue is in how much capacity do the carriers possess for regular users. If (for those on prepaid or have multiple sim cards) I can cancel the service and re-signup. Then you start fresh with more pre-fair use bandwidth depending on the plan. You have to pay for this, but you can satisfy a larger appetite for fast data this way. Seems like the best method is (for true H) is to sign up for postpaid plan from MyByCat MyClick 4GB. Then have a prepaid (or another postpaid plan) sim on standby so that you can order more data on separate sim. Actually two postpaid sims from MyByCat would set you back 631 x 2 = 1262 baht for 8gb. Too bad there isn't a way to bond two or more usb stick connections into one usb router. I have a separate question: can you force 2g only and use Edge at full speed instead of using the fair use speeds of 3g, which might actually be worse? A friend of mine says that he actually does that because it is more stable that way, especially if your connection keeps switching between 2g and 3g.
2unique Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) Yesterday I received notice that my speed would be dropped to 64Kbs as I'd used my 2gb of 3g. Previously I had 1gb dropped to 384Kbs but on purchasing a Samsung S3 received 2gb which I asked specifically what would the speed be dropped to - response 384Kbs. I called Dtac and they said they'd look into it. Around 4 hours later I received a call and was offered the 899baht package (2gb at 3g, Dtac wifi, dropped to 384 and 550 baht of calls) for 539 baht for 18 months. As my package was about to revert to 699 baht a month I accepted however I will still write an official letter of complaint. Btw they canceled my multi-sim w/out asking deeming that I wouldn't need it having Dtac wifi! Edited March 8, 2013 by 2unique
lomatopo Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) The website shows the 799:2 GB/999:3 GB/1299: 6 GB plans, before the 200 baht/mo discount, as having a FuP of 384 Kbps. They don't show any 699 or 899 plan anymore. http://www.dtac.co.th/en/postpaid/products/smartphone.html To add data to a post paid plan you need to go to 650/3 GB to get a FuP of 384 Kbps; the 399/1 GB plan has a FuP of 64 Kbps. If you're not using all those minutes it may be better to switch to pre-paid? Edited March 8, 2013 by lomatopo

seancbk Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 TrueMove H's unlimited plans (3 GB, 5 GB and 10 GB) all have a fair-use speed of 128 Kbps.Yikes! Is that a recent move on their part or a misprint?I'm currently 25Gb into my 5Gb package and still getting ~384kbps no problem... Edit: Yes that's the Thai site that says 128Kbps. I much prefer the English site. "384Mbps" I can't begin to imagine what you are doing on your phone to use 25 gigabytes of data. I'm on the AIS unlimited plan which gives me 3GB of 3G connection and I rarely go over 2GB in a month.... and I thought I was using my phone a lot to access the web etc.

I use prepaid Dtac/Happy unlimited monthly package. My phone has a 3G / 2G switch. I spoke to Dtac at length on numerous occasions and got to the root of the issue. Basically if you are in a 3G area, your package will be debited from it's 3G allocation, regardless of what your phone is switched to and experiencing. 2G in a 3G area is possibly more stable, but my experience of that over the last 2 years is mixed. Summary - Dtac do not know what setting your phone is switched to, so they debit your package accoding to what's available.
Toany Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 You are all spoilt. Try living upcountry where DTAC and True are unable to provide a usable service at any speed. I feel lucky that AIS can at least provided a reliable EDGE service with a responsive customer services. TRUE and DTAC just cherry pick the highly populated areas and ignore the rest of Thailand.

I'm on the AIS unlimited plan which gives me 3GB of 3G connection and I rarely go over 2GB in a month.... and I thought I was using my phone a lot to access the web etc. I can imagine, it's simple: download, download, download. Mostly torrents, I guess. If you have a good speed, you can download several GB in a single night. Now, I think, all those people who want to download so much with a mobile phone package, should rather use cable Internet where there is no cap, BUT: the problem for many users is: they cannot get cable Internet where they live. I'm one of them. So, they - including me - have to depend on AIS, DTAC and TRUE-H. Not a happy situation. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Two years ago I moved from Pattaya (with True cable Internet 10MB) to Surin province where we had built a new home in my wife's village. No Internet provider whatsoever, except TOT Ipstar with their 1MB package for 2'784 Baht/month. So, I had Internet at a much inflated price. Half of the time I had problems getting a decent working speed (for so much money). In order to get their service I had to stay with TOT for minimum 1 year. So I paid for a mediocre service 33'408 Baht during a 12 month period. Then I said goodbye, as I bought my first iPhone with a True-H package and used the iPhone's personal hotspot to feed Internet into my PC. You might google my experiences with True within TV forum. One day last year in December, my wife saw a commercial at the roadside for WiFi Internet service, installation cost 4'500 Baht. We called and it took some time until somebody came along and installed an antenna on a pole and we got (at that time) 5-6MB down.... wait ... for just 300 Baht per month, first month free. I couldn't believe it, but it is true. The installer is leasing Internet from TOT and is redistributing it via his own little tower. We contacted TOT and were told this is legal, he can do it. Over three months time the speed has slowed down, we get now 2-4MB, sometimes less, but come on, it's far better than what I had with Ipstar and hey, 300 Baht is about 1/10 of what I used to pay for a much lower speed! For those of you who are in the same situation like me and live in Nakhon Nowhere, check out your neighborhood, this WiFi system is getting popular over here. I try to attach a picture of the antenna.

You must live deep in the jungle or be unlucky, True has not more 3G cell sites than the old 2G, which are on 850 Mhz which has longer reach than their old 1800mhz on 2G. I was a year ago sailing 5 days all around Krabi, and had 3G almost everywhere. The trip from Phi Phi back to Phuket over water was almost 100% 3G DTAC is still significantly behind on cell sites, and i suspect they are gearing up with their 2100Mhz offer, but that will take some time to get a decent coverage. As for AIS, still on Edge in my house in Bangkok...... Network still has alot of holes
laislica Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I wonder how much bandwidth is used by the Internet Speed Tests? How does it go - Oh look how slow it is - How slow? Give me a moment and I'll check.......
Gary A Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 My Truemove-H package expired yesterday. Today I checked my balance and connected to the Internet. I was online for 3 minutes, Yes, three minutes. I checked my balance and had lost more than 20 baht. That is just plain crazy. What can you do?

I'd recommend subscribing to a plan which offers unlimited internet usage, albeit with a FuP of 128 Kbps?

You have been told umpteen times by both me, Lomatopo and probably others what is happening and how to resolve your problem. The problem does not lie with True but with you subscribing to a package apparently not suited to your usage. Truemove-H has now all their packages clearly on their website and in English. Thanks!
