PHUKET: The death of a 35-year-old Swedish tourist, whose body was discovered in his hotel room at Kata Beach, has quietly surfaced on Phuket.

The resort involved, the Swedish embassy in Bangkok and police have all confirmed that James Karlsson was found dead in his room at the Serene Resort last Wednesday.

However, they have all declined to offer any further details about the circumstances under which Mr Karlsson died.

Emergency first-responders from the Phuket Ruamjai Rescue Foundation were called to the resort at 6:30pm.

Sayan Dharmmapun, one of the rescue workers responding to the call, told the Phuket Gazette that when his team arrived Mr Karlsson’s body was lying face up on the bed. He was shirtless, showing the tattoos on his right arm and the left side of his chest.

“We presumed that he died about eight hours before we arrived,” said Mr Sayan.

The rescue team transported Mr Karlsson’s body to Vachira Phuket Hospital.

A staffer at the morgue has since told the Gazette that Mr Karlsson’s body was sent to Surat Thani Hospital for autopsy on Monday.

The police officer responsible for the case, Capt Nitikorn Rawang of Chalong Police, confirmed Mr Karlsson’s death, but declined to give any details about Mr Karlsson, or to confirm or deny whether any investigation is underway.

Staff at the resort and at the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok declined to comment, saying that it was against policy.

Looks like an autopsy is on the way, so nothing to say yet.

What can the hotel, police and embassy do, make up stories when there is nothing to say?

Is the image really that appropriate, especially with the words at the bottom of it and considering someone's died and their family might be reading this ?? unsure.png

That poster would be better suited hanging in the lobby of the TAT head office, outlining the organisation's "mission statement."

So what, people die every day. Why sensationalize what may or may not be suspicious. Let his family maintain some dignity for the deceased.

You sound like an ambulance chaser who wants gory details so you can find some way to point the finger.

I liked this part.... OK, away from the USELESS Medical Doctors here in Phuket when it comes to something else as broken bones or accident related incidents (like kidney stones) they are not able in PHUKET to check for the exact reason of the death?

Sounds like a made up here to hide something....something in the water? (like this poisonos jellyfish a year ago?) ..... or a spider like two weeks ago?? .... this behaviour gives a wide range for speculations...why else they should cover it? .....Thais are more clever like the western media....they know, after a month of not talking, everybody forgot what happend jap.gif

(4) I hope the person who posted this realizes that in most of the world, police do not feel required to share every detail of every incident they investigate. Perhaps there is "no news' because ... There - is - no -news.

But dont you think thats more then stupid?? When they have shared the case and posted all details HERE IN TV Forum- where out of the 60000 members a minimum of 30% work in their spare time as private detectives the case would be solved then already.....

It took weeks for the results of Whitney Houston's autopsy to be released ... guess there was a cover-up and/or "eerie silence" on that one too?

rather meaningless to say the least extremely inconsiderate. the image chosen illustrates merely a errily sense of morbid curiousity. sincere condolence to the living family.

I am bracing myself for the endless lectures about how I have only lived here a few years and will someday learn that everything that happens in the Kingdom is part of a larger conspiracy plot hatched by Jet Ski operators. It is getting a bit stale, really.

The whiners and moaners have a limited repetoire and, to them, nothing ever gets old. Apparently it's believed that anything that happens to a farang in Thailand, no matter how unfortunate and regrettable, is the result of some secret plot.

After awhile it feeds upon itself. They manufacture their own evidence and substantiate it by making reference to previously manufactured evidence.

The "eerie silence cloaks" is News of the World material designed to entice the gullible without consideration for the person who died or his friends & family. It's all fodder for them.

I would be interested in any comment you may have on the deaths at The Downtown Hotel in Chiang Mai in recent time. I suppose you would agree that the deaths were "just a coincidence" as well.

The family and friends of the deceased are entitled to answers, and based on those answers, possibly, justice. Many foreigners have died in Thailand due to foul play and negligence. Many have also died from their own actions. It's the job of police to investigate and find out which one of the three scenarios caused the death, and then lay charges, if appropriate. I personally, do not have the confidence in them to carry out their duty properly. Simple as that. No "secret plot" involved.

It's not in good taste to joke about someone's death. Especially someone so young,35, who has friends and family that will miss him.

A pathologist, while an MD, is trained in additional skills that allow a proper cause of death to be termined. A GP or a surgeon, or dermatologist, or an ER physician may be competent in their field, but they are not qualified to render the same assessments as a pathologist. Surat Thani is the closest facility with advanced laboratory equipment and the expertise required to provide a detailed and comprehensive opinion. Surat Thani has a medical school and is a designated regional centre of excellence. Phuket does not have the same facilities for the simple reason that they would have been underused. Not enough dead bodies are in Phuket. It's why bodies get shipped to Bangkok from towns and villages 6 hours away and its why Surat thani is used. In the south Hat Yai is the designated centre. Trust this answers your concern.

Not enough dead bodies in Phuket to warrant such a facility ?

The picture is inappropriate because it suggests a conspiracy in foul play. Here may be some reasons for a lack of further news instead of an "Eerie Silence" (Talk about Drama! )

(1) Results from the autopsy are not yet complete

(2) Evidence on the scene, if made public, would destroy the chances of finding individuals who might be involved.

(3) The authorities are respecting the wishes of the family that details are kept "in house" and ... please read this slowly so you understand it ... Not the business of anyone else.

(4) I hope the person who posted this realizes that in most of the world, police do not feel required to share every detail of every incident they investigate. Perhaps there is "no news' because ... There - is - no -news.

So, suggesting foul play, a cover up and conspiracy is a dramatic at this early stage.

I find your post, well very good.

Correct. Surat Thani as a regional medical centre and having a medical school has the resources to undertake a thorough exam. Keep in mind that spending on health infrastructure is dependent on officil populations. it's like the allocation of police resources. Phuket has how many government hospitals? Go and visit the place and you will run away. They can't do proper toxicology tests. Surathani can

Just imagine for a minute that it was your son or brother that had died and how you would feel reading flippant posts about his death.

Ironic post considering your avatar

Great comeback, well done.

Surat Thani is the regional Police HQ covering Phuket.

It makes sense that the Medical Examiner for autopsies would be stationed there.

With the screen name TexasRanger you should be aware that the internet thingy is the epitome of free speech - good taste is not part of the equation... I, for one, couldn't be bothered what random peeps on the net had to say about me or mine.

Agreed, but not everyone is as thick skinned, just thinking of his family that's all.
