Extension Based On Marriage

Featured Replies

Currently I have the (Non-B visa) extension based on work and work permit.

I am married to a Thai

I don't have 400,000 baht in my bank and dont have 40,000 baht income at the moment or even for the past few months.

I wanted to change my extension to be based on marriage so I could stay until about August which is when we plan to have our wedding ceremony (Were already married though, legally)

Is my best bet, to go to laos and get the non-o visa? but then its only valid for 90 days? and I would still have to get the extension based on marriage at immigration in thailand correct? or I could get it at laos for 1 year? confusing

What if I just went to the immigration at jatjujak? area and said I wanted to change my extension based on work to based on marriage? Would they let me since I cant show the funds?

well, any help would be great about what I should probably do. Currently all my stuff expires end of May

I am also considering just trying to get a new job for this next semester.. I only worry about the week I am getting married, If I would easily be able to take off 1 week or not.. and also I wanted to leave Thailand end of August, not in October.

You can go to Laos, savanakhet and apply there for a multiple non-O visa. The visa is valid for 1 year, and during the validity each time you enter Thailand you can stay for up to 90 days. Then you have to elave the country and can come back in, as long as your visa is valid. By leaving and re-entering just before the visa expires you cna get almost 15 months out of it.

Thanks,

That clears things up a bit..

Also I have to cancel my work permit before I get this visa? or I can do it after? If before then I most likely have to pay overtstay (1-2 days) I guess...

Alternatively after you get the o visa, if you can get the 400,000 in your bank say a few weeks after you get the visa, and then leave it in until a week before you have to leave the country (90 day stay).. Then I should be eligible to get a visa extension based on marriage from within Thailand?

You have to cancel the work permit and permission to stay the day you stop working. For that you need a letter from your employer, stating the last day of work. But based on your marriage, you can apply for a 60 day extension of stay for 1,900 baht if you want some extra time before you go and apply for a visa. (For this visit immmigration with your wife, marriage certificate and her ID-card and hosuehold registration book)

When you have the non-O visa you can apply for a 1 year extension of stay during the last 30 days of any entry.

If you go for the 60 day extension and will qualify at the end at the 60 days, you could apply for 1 year extension without going abroad for a new visa.

The 400k will have to be in account in your name for two months before you apply for the one year extension of stay for Thai wife.
