Deputy PM Denies Interference in Police Reshuffle

BANGKOK: -- A deputy prime minister has denied allegations of interfering in the annual police reshuffle and also dismissed knowing anything about the rumor that an unidentified person usually seen working at the National Police Office is involved in post-buying.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung insisted that he did not interfere with the reshuffle of the deputy police commander level posts as he has no authority to decide on the matter.

Chalerm also denied knowing anything about the rumor that a person usually seen working on the seventh floor of the National Police Office has some involvement in alleged post-buying.

Chalerm believes that national police chief Police General Priewpan Damapong is also strongly against post-buying.

The deputy premier insisted that he will continue his efforts to tackle the narcotics problem.

He has discussed with Department of Special Investigation Director General Tharit Pengdit whether to take irregularities in the distribution of pseudoephedrine, a controlled substance used in cold medication which can also serve as a precursor for various illicit drugs, by provincial hospitals as a special case.

Chalerm noted that there will be no ban on the import of pseudoephedrine due to its need for medical purposes.

However, the sale and distribution of pseudoephedrine will be strictly scrutinized.

Nepotism trumps mere money.

If he HAD THE AUTHORITY, it wouldn't be interference..

Controlling the commanders and making them owe you favors

Well, he may be stating it correctly. He doesn't make such decisions. Such decisions are made in Dubai. He is simply the purveyor of the decision.

Maybe Chalerm wants to promote a cop killer?

As of course is the Chief of Police himself.

I'm still worried about Chalerms ear problem. You know, the one that caused him to look and act like a drunken sot. I hope he has had that taken care of.

Who is worse? the Pseudo Thanksin Government or the Thai mafia? maybe they are the same?

His recent comments would suggest that he is certainly off medication at present.
