Thai Marriage Certificate

Featured Replies

Hi,

My wife and I married in Thailand and hence have the Thai wedding certificates.

Obviously when we applied for settlement(m) a few years ago it was translated and stamped by the ministry if I remember correctly.

Now the time has come where she will apply for UK Citizenship, will these same documents (wedding certificates) be suitable for this application? Or would they need to be translated by someone recognised in the UK?

The same goes for applying for sons first UK passport where the marriage certificates are required.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Shug

The documents should be OK. the Boarder Agency have excepted them when granting IDL so there should not be a problem.

Have them translated buy a recognised translator and make sure all spelling is correct as Thai certificate/ passports shows. Once that's done then deposit the Original with the GRO (General Register Office) in Portsmouth or Southampton can't remember off hand. Once this has been done you can ask for a certified copy back from them which includes both the Thai and English marriage certificate embossed with a waxed seal of approval. This can then be added to your wife's citizenship application. Cost is around £55 from memory unless it's gone up. ...? Others may offer different advice but this is my personal choice !
