Thaksin's sister steps in

BANGKOK: -- Yaowapha Wongsawat, a sister of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, has asked a Pheu Thai MP to stop campaigning against Pheu Thai's Social Development and Human Security Minister Santi Prompat.

A party source said Yaowapha held a meeting with Pheu Thai MP Prawat Uttamote and Prawat's friends at the Pheu Thai head office at 11am, and told Prawat to stop his campaign against Santi.

Prawat and his friends, who are also Pheu Thai MPs, have been gathering signatures in a bid to check the performance of Santi after Santi removed Panida Kampu na Ayutthaya as the permanent secretary for Social Development and Human Security. She was transferred to an inactive position at the PM's Office. Panida is Prawat’s sister.

Yaowapha told Prawat to "let bygones be bygones" and "stop destroying the party", the source said.

The source said Prawat agreed to stop his campaign.

"My friends and I are not seeking to destroy the party. We are always loyal to the party," the source quoted Prawat as saying in his reply to Yaowapha.

Yaowapha then made a phone call to Thaksin, telling him what happened.

The source quoted Thaksin as telling the meeting that he would give justice to both sides but he would like Prawat to stop his campaign for now.

Only in Thaland........ Governing parties in most Democracies have what are called 'party whips' to enforce internal discipline, which is a necessary function in case members go off the reservation. This is more gentle and civilized......... Only in Thailand.

Yaowapha Wongsawat, a sister of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra

Just for the record, Yaowapha is banned from politics for participating in electoral fraud.

.

You like to word things in as negative light as possible.

The wife of Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat was a Thai Rak Thai party-list MP, and a leader of the party's Wang Bua Baan faction. She was also an adviser to her brother- the then prime minister. Yaowapa's voting right was revoked when Thai Rak Thai was dissolved. She was not personally guilty of voting fraud. - Source, The Nation (aka The Bucholz Bible.)

She is recognized as a peacemaker. In this case where an MP is on a vendetta because of his sister's losing a position it is best to handle the situation in a quiet apolitical manner.

If you read the article it sounds like she phoned Mr, T after the meeting, but reading the next line makes it sound like he was actually taking part via phone link. (as telling the meeting - means he must have been someway taking part)

For those unaware,

Pheu Thai Party Whip Udomdej Ratanasatien

The man that's supposed to enforce internal discipline, which is a necessary function in case members go off the reservation.

Yaowapha was banned from politics.

The revocation of her voting rights was but one punishment resulting from that.

All 111 Thai Rak Thai Party executives were adjudicated as to having committed electoral fraud as co-conspirators.

BANGKOK : Ousted Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was banned from politics for five years, along with 110 Thai Rak Thai (TRT) executives, after a top court dissolved the political party Wednesday over electoral fraud.

The other paper is reporting it as the latter with Yaowapha first asking Thaksin to resolve the matter and then inviting Prawat to her office where she had Prawat speak to Thaksin on the phone there in order to settle the feud.

Thaksin is reported to have said, "I will take care of matters and will ensure justice for both sides."

That would be the same paper I read this morning.

He is actually the government Chief Whip and as such is unlikely to get his hands dirty in "whipping duties" i.e internal discipline and being aware of the opposition individual mp's pecadillos. If there is any comparison with other countries he would be more involved with the administration of the whips activities but having the "voice" i.e power of the PM. Edited by phiphidon

Well the PM should ask for it back then. She desperately needs it.

Yes, he's Government Chief Whip Pheu Thai Party Constituency MP from Nonthaburi who was appointed to the position by Pheu Thai Party MP Yingluck's Cabinet. He was given the position after indicted Red Shirt Leader currently out on bail and Pheu Thai Party-list MP Apiwan turned it down.

Nice photo, anyone know which one is Mr T's sister?

Is she the one 2nd from the right?

in the middle.

Here's a clearer image of her

Not relevant I know, but she drew the short straw in the looks stakes. Or was Yingluck the runt of the litter and always got to the food bowl too late?

I recommend that you consult the Bucholz Bible, September 19, 2008.

The lady was a Party List MP. She was neither accused of, nor convicted of electoral fraud. Her forced withdrawal from politics was as a result of the Thai Rak Thai party being dissolved.

Please show me where she was personally convicted of electoral fraud. I will gladly acknowledge your point if you can show me that. As far as I know, it was the party that was dissolved.

The foreign news agency report you cite is erroneous, please refer to the judgement. Show me in the judgment where she was "adjudicated guilty". My reading of the decision shows otherwise and I will be delighted if you can educate me by giving me the judgement citation.

Thanks!

Please post a photo of yourself so that we may comment on your physical appearance.

You have the mentality of a 12 year old judging someone on appearances.

If that was the case, 75% of Thailand's foreign residents should be deported for having bad teeth, bad skin, varicose veins, sagging guts, and the worst crime of all, the wearing of white socks with sandals.

I am a desperately handsome bloke of course. That's me in my avatar finishing the Kokoda Trail.

My comment wasn't meant to be taken seriously. So sue me for comparing her to her sister! I have commented many times that I think Yingluck's looks have been a political liability for her, not an asset.

You certainly have a head of steam up today.

Yingluck will be her look-alike a couple of years from now.

sfbandung is right. You do have a head of steam. What's with all the inflammatory hostility?

anyway

I didn't say she was personally convicted of electoral fraud. I said she participated in electoral fraud and as a Party executive she was, along with her brother and 109 others. Two other Party executives were found guilty of bribery and as co-conspirators the Party executives were held responsible, which resulted in the Party being dissolved.

I thought everyone knew what happened, but I guess it has been a few years and memories fade I suppose.

The judges said that senior members of the party, Thamarak Isarangura and Pongsak Ruktapongpisal, guilty of paying and hiring small parties to run in the April 2 national election.

They dismissed the party's arguments that the party's executives were not aware of both members' wrongdoings. They said it was impossible that the executives did not know the wrongdoings.

Let me get this straight: A politician banned from politics for fraud calls a fugitive criminal abroad who in turn instructs a Thai minister what to do, right?

One could legitimately add (also with a slight correction on the call receiver) :

A politician banned from politics for fraud calls a fugitive criminal abroad and who also is banned from politics for fraud, who in turn instructs a Member of Parliament what to do on a political matter,

TRT had about a year to whip its offending execs in place but they didn't think it was necessary to punish poll fraudsters. The court had no choice but to order dissolution of the whole party just as was recommended by the first investigating committee several months before the coup. In the case related to that same fraud Democrats promptly expelled the offending member who wasn't even an executive.

Nice photo, anyone know which one is Mr T's sister?

Wrong question - you don't count Yaowapa from right or left - you count everyone else as left or right from her, she is the main point of reference in any group pictures. They didn't call her "dragon lady" for nothing.

>>>>

Any news from red shirts when they start mass demonstration against unelected and unaccountable people messing with the work of elected parliamentarians?

Most people judge a person by that first appearance... it certainly gives an insight into how a person thinks by the way they take care of themselves physically and by design... She looks like a Pig... (this is just my personal view ) her fault for not taking care of her waistline , bad personal habits, and terrible design.. no shortage of money ... just a shortage of gray matter.. seems to be a family trait.. but, there is someone for everyone so Im told... perhaps she is your type of lady... maybe love at first sight for you.
