If someone could give some info on when to apply for ilr I would be grateful.

My wife has been in the uk for 15 months on settlement and is in full employment. We think we will go down the kol test route even though her english is near perfect, is that the best way?

Not sure of the procedure really or when to start it, your advice would be most helpful.

Kind regards

firstly, waste no time in getting the official study materials and sample KOL test questions from tso.gov.uk and start studying for the test

suggest you study together, imho you'll need to spend a good few months on the material before being ready to take the test

I believe there are also some study materials available translated into Thai which may or may not help

I believe you cannot apply for ILR (or FLR) until 28 days before expiry of the initial visa

There is a Thai version available on Amazon @ £8.99 but its not official and think its based on the 2010 test. Agree it could be more of a hinderance as the test itself will obviously be in English. I'm going to order it anyway for my Mrs to give her an idea of whats involved before we decide on which route to take eg LITUK, ESOL etc

Not sure how long it takes but ESOL may take too long if your Mrs has been here a while so LITUK may be your best option

Many thx for your replies fellas, feels a bit like all the worry all over again from the settlement app, will check out the thai version of the kol test, good idea, we've got 6 months to prepare, just wish there was another option with her english being so good.

Kind regards

You can apply for ILR 28 days before your spouse has been in the country for 2 years this is the earliest, Her spouse visa will be valid for 27 months, a part time esol course will take appox 4 months and be a morning, afternoon or evening class on a chosen day per week, I have just been to book my wife in the earliest she can start is september

But if your wife is very good at english at level 3 ESOL she will have to do the lituk test

Best to make an appointment at your nearest college and have her assessed
