Tourist Visa Extension

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm currently in Bangkok and entered Thailand from South Africa (the passport type which I hold) on a 2 month tourist visa. Am thinking about teaching English here when schools open in May but my visa expires just after Songkrahn (around 19 April). What is my best option for an extension? If I go to KL in Malaysia will I be able to get another 2 months? Or if I get a 1 month extension here at the immigration office in Bangkok will I then be able to extend for another 2 months in Malaysia at a later stage?

I have heard a few different stories. Someone said that if I do extend by one month here in Bangkok then I wouldn't be able to do another 2 month run later. Someone else said that because I entered in on a 2 month I cannot get another 2 month in Malaysia? I hope this is not true.

Some clarity would be much appreciated,

Thank you!

You can extend in Thailand by 30 days. if you extend, the Thai consulate in Penang will not issue a new tourist visa. Others will.

Thanks Mario,

If I extend by 30 days at the immigration office in Bangkok, will the Thai Embassy in KL Malaysia issue me a new 2 month tourist visa after that expires?

We can not predict the future but from current reports obtaining a new tourist visa would not be a problem there or most other Consulates. But if you are going to work a non immigrant B visa is what you will be looking for.
