Hi,

I am visiting Thailand in Oct of 2012 after 30 yrs. I know I can just fly in from USA and get a 30 day tourist visa. How difficult is it to get a extension(s). Say for 10, 20 30, 40, days, etc.?

If at immigration, can I do this in the upper provinces (N, and NE)? And is it difficult?

I know I can get a 60 day by applying to Thai Embassy. Can I get extension on that also? If so, how long and how difficult?

As an American you cannot get a "30 day tourist visa".

What you get is a "Visa Exempt Entry" giving you 30 days in the Kingdom.

You can extend this for 7 days at any Immigration Office (not border post) by showing a ticket out of the country within those 7 days.

If you get a Tourist Visa from a Thai Consular Office, on arrival you get 60 days in the Kingdom.

You can extend this for 30 days at any Immigration Office (not border post) fairly easily.

If you get a double entry Tourist Visa you will get 60 days on entry, apply for 30 days extension, leave Thailand, return and get 60 days on entry, apply for another 30 days extension.

Hi I am thinking of getting a tourist visa and I have a question, surpose I get a double entry (not sure I can but its an option on the form I got from the consulate in Auckland NZ).

Can I leave Thailand for a week within the first 2 months and return without invalidating the visa or it a one shot ? I was hoping I could get a re-entry visa while in thailand to keep the first tourist visa running.

thanks

In your case you cn get a re-entry permit for 1,000 baht at an immirgation office before you leave Thailand, that would keep your 60 day permission to stay alive. (it would not add any extra days) But you could also still get the 30 day extension, provided you return to Thailand before the first 60 days are finished.

A friend is currently in Bangkok on a 15 day visa exemption (he came across on the Malaysian border). His 15 days expires on 7/4/2012.

He now needs to stay in Thailand until 22/4/2012.

Would he be able to apply for an extension at Chaeng Wattana, and if so, what are the requirements?

He needs to do another border run to get an adiitional 15 days, (or 30 days if he comes back in by plane).

The most he would get from immigration is 7 days, unless married to a Thai.
