Visa Run

Featured Replies

Hi everybody.

can anyone give me some info about 15 days visa run to Laos in Nan Province. I will go to the border by car but from there on I need information. From Thai Immigration to Laos Imm. walk or taxi? how much for Laos Visa? all infos are appreciated. Thanks in advance

There are buses that take you from the Thai immagration to Lao immigration, the ticket is usually 20 baht or so. Visa on Arrival fee depends on your nationality, I think for most it is $35 but bring American dollars as you will end up paying more if you pay in baht.

This is at the Houey Khon, Nan to Muang Nguen, Sayabouri, Laos, border point?

Please confirm.

It is a pretty long walk, if there's no "bus" there, but doable, just wear a hat, and carry an umbrella and a bottle of water.

how far is the border from Nan city?

As I remember, it's about two hours from Nan city up to Huey Khon, the Thai border point, in Chaleom Phra Kiet District.

Note, this was in our own vehicle, a songtaeo or bus would be longer, of course.

yes thats the place. the Visa fee for Laos is either 30$ or 1200 Baht.you will get a 30 day Visa for Laos. no need to get a Visa from Lao Embassy you get it right at the Border. the Border is 138 Km from Nan city. Road is quite good exept the last 20 Km. if you drive a car with LPG PUA is the last chance to fill up. 14 April 2012

The laos Visa Fee depends on your Nationality.

Below more on getting from Thai Immigration to Lao Immigration, about 1 km distant.

Huey Khon, Nan, to Mueng Nguen, Laos, Crossing

One Q I get now and then is from people wanting to make this crossing but not having their own wheels, two or four of them. I can tell them how to get to Huey Khon Immigration, but then there's that loooong walk over to the Lao Immigration office. And vice versa.

Has anyone observed any paid for transport between the two points? Song Taeo, motorcycle, anything? Or is it still shank's mare.

Mac,

About a week ago I noticed quite a few motorcycle taxis on the Thai side. Don't know if they are there to bring people to Chaloem Prakiat which is a few km from the border crossing or also for the Lao side but I assume so as in the past I have seen guys on motorbike bringing people to the Lao border and then going back.
