License Plate Mutilation Fad

Featured Replies

I see this really a lot now.. making small scratches in car license plates.

Anyone knows why?

I experienced people in Switzerland being proud of their old, scratched and almost unreadable license plates as it indicated that they had been driving since the dawn of time. This has been stopped now.

Probably in the fast and the furious or some such other film.

Only reason is to look blur on radars photos.

Haven't noticed it. Maybe just a Chiang Mai trend?

I have seen 3 plates now where the retards inside have changed the numbers with paint to resemble an 8......so they change a 6 or a 3 or a 9 to 8's.

I seem to remember there was an article in Thairath recently where a Thai wrote in with a pic like that of their 'wrinkled' number plate. Turned out they were complaining about it - it's due to the cheap materials they've started using in the plate's manufacture.

Correct - it's the new paint with the embedded holograms - deteriorates under UV. Changeover not completely thought through as usual. rolleyes.gif

Is the number 8 not considered lucky in this part fo the world?

Yeah it is....so what ??....that makes it ok to vandal your plates and change the numbers ??

Not that the authorities would give a toss here really.

This is also what I understand. The supplier(s) seems to have cut some corners.

Also this is causing a huge back up in the supply of plates to new customers. A friend who works at the DLT/Chatuchuk said the wait is now 90 + days, but that could slip even further out.

Of course this means potentially more issues with the Police while traveling on red plates during Songkhran. Time to load up on 50 baht notes. ;)

So as the Transport Dept sell these plates has anybody gone back with them and said you sold me a 'Duff Plate' new one please?.

And what if your number plate is too old and you buy a new car ?

Must keep the ugly old number plate on new benz ?

(because I guess that people with 8888 plates keep them forever even when they change their car, right ?)
