April 7, 201214 yr I'm English and am here on a retirement extension. My long-standing Thai partner and I are getting married soon. Will Immigration's financial requirement of 800,000Bt in regard to a retirement extension be increased as a result?
April 7, 201214 yr Nope, no change. You may even get a reduction to 400,000 (or 40,000 a month) if at your next extension you apply as a person married to a Thai national. PS - Mods, wouldn't this be better in the Visa section?

Yes eyebee is correct, it seems Thai Immigration consider that a single man needs twice as much money to live off than a married man with kids, presumably because they think he has no more bar fines to pay? April 7, 201214 yr Who knows what immigration is thinking? If it was based on pure logic, people who owned housing here would have lower financial requirements. They don't.
April 7, 201214 yr (6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.
April 7, 201214 yr Author Wow! Doesn't make sense to me, but no complaint. Thanks all for looking and your responses.
April 7, 201214 yr Retirement is and remains 800k/65k regardless of marriage. But with marriage to a Thai wife you have the lower 400k/40k option if you want to use it (it is not a retirement extension of stay however) and requires more paperwork and both parties be present each year for extension.

Not at all. They consider that the Thai wife or her family will be getting that other B400,000. In many cases, that they may not be far wrong.
April 7, 201214 yr Marriage extenson of stay...definitely more paperwork, pictures of you and spouse in/around residence, both you and the spouse going to immigration, and that 30 day wait period for final approval; retirement extension of stay much simpler and quicker, but more income is needed. But on the marriage extension of stay you could get a WP no problem versus a WP is not suppose to be issued again a retirement extension of stay. Pro's and con's to each type of extension...will vary from individual to individual what suits them best.
