Who else is looking forward to the highlight of the varsity rowing calendar?

The Boat Race, live on Eurosport. Don your barbour, chill the Moet, pack your basket and decamp to the Thames...

immediately followed by Edinburgh v Toulouse in the Heineken Cup Quarter-Finals from Murrayfield

Oh my word, there's someone in the water!

They're having to restart -

It's almost unprecedented!

"Oxford were completely unaware there was someone under their blades, and it could have been very nasty...

there's the police launch taking away the offender"

What tremendous excitement

"Race will restart shortly"

Imagine stopping a boat race half way through - it just doesn't bear thinking about.

Reminds me of a joke, I'll not bore you with the whole story, the punch was "aye, but it was all just one big one"

SC

Oh my word - there's a clash of blades - its like fencing so it is and one of the Oxford Oars is burst, and Cambridge put the hammer down "Could this race get any more dramatic?"

"This would be a Herculean effort for the Oxford boat to get back on level terms"

"and that is a dramatic race ... I have never seen anything like that"

"Highly unsatisfactory"

as Cambridge cross to win the race, subject to Oxford's appeal, of course

But enough of this nonsense, get the bloody rugby on, eh boys?

But "we await to see if this result stands"

"...the result stands" says John Garrett, the Umpire, "after probably the most dramatic boat race for some time"

And they're still wittering on about it, even as Mike Blair puts Edinburgh a try up against Toulouse - come on, man! Time for me to crack open the irn bru~!

I feel so sorry for the Oxford crew... so much blood, sweat and tears they have gone through to prepare for this race... all spoiled by a stupid hippy...

I'm glad no-one knows what he was protesting about, as far as I can tell. I have no interest...

Maybe he was protesting that too much has been spent cleaning the Thames up... it did look nice

Six months in a leaky boat?

The irony would be unbearable...

I can see why nobody bothered posting on this thread this year.

Rowing is one of those spectator sports I can't really get into unless I have a dog in the fight.

When I was in school, a bunch of my frat buddies crewed, and they were amazing athletes- in better shape than any others I've ever met. We used to go to their meets to cheer them on.

But once I was out of school, I can't tell the difference between a world record run and one that's way off the pace. So it's a lot like watching a neighbor mowing the lawn.

Try telling that to WeeGee!

It's all coming up again next Saturday - no, I mean like events on the calendar - and fortunately I'll be home from my travels to watch, if it's on satellite. It doesn't clash with the European rugby quarter-finals, which were this weekend just past.

It's not often you get to bump a boat race.  In the spirit of the event, I'm going to neck my can of Tiger in one when they set off, if I can hold back that long, so to speak.

I caught a bit of the Ladies Event (can I say that on the internet) from Ol' Skool on the way home, but now I'm sat at home, trusty Tiger by my side, Internet cranked up, and singing the Blues.
