geeit Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Am looking into what the majority of expats in Thailand do to earn a living, From what i can gather most are retird living on there own funds. But the pole should speak for its self. Thanks for all those who participate. Cheers Geeit
Martin Posted January 23, 2004 Posted January 23, 2004 There are a few more categories (or there are sub-categories) to get the full picture; e.g. "Officially retired. Working as the Thai wife's (or GF's) assistant in the running of her business". Which raises the point that at what stage, in the range between occasionally helping by putting one's dirty dishes in the dishwasher and slaving full time in her business, should one have a work permit?
dr_Pat_Pong Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 Semi retirement seems to be a conflict in term in respect of visa regulations in the Kingdom
Pink Mist Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 oxymoron Doc excellent examples English Gentleman and kiwi intelligence
Thaiquila Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 I just heard of a new category today: "self unemployed" coined by the famous Stange de Jim of San Francisco.
Maverick Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 Dont come here retired and then decide to get a job here (I am told) - the Thai auth dont understand the concept..........they might well say 'sorry you cant un-retire...its not possible') as I am told from a friend this happened to someone he knew.
jayenram Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 Where does 'attempting to drink Thailand dry of Beer Chang" fit into this poll?
dr_Pat_Pong Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 Where does 'attempting to drink Thailand dry of Beer Chang" fit into this poll? It is a specialist task of work, and one undertaken by many. It is the one task of work in Thailand that, as yet, does not require a work permit.
KevinN Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 Well Dr. PP, Then why does I.T. have to have a work permit??
dr_Pat_Pong Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 Well Dr. PP, Then why does I.T. have to have a work permit?? I'm unsure what you are asking Kev...can you clarify the question for me 1
Guest IT Manager Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 My work permit clearly states, "fixing, designing computers and stuff and attempting to drink 3 bottles of Chang per day"
leonah Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 Was that "attempting to drink 3 Changs a day" or "attempting to drink ONLY 3 Changs a day" Pass the ice please!
Guest IT Manager Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 Wonder where the chicken ever got to. (Family humour)

Guest IT Manager Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 I have to be honest, darling. It was very well marinated. And yes, finger-licking good. Sorry Doc, she has recently come to the Lite.. best Korean. Only 10,000 won at a 7-11 near you.

leonah Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 We tried teaching her that, but she always went straight for the glass. Obviously she thought the saucer wasn't full enough.
