Yeah there is more to this than she is letting on, it can be used in a couple of different ways, for example if someone very close to you had died, or maybe in your case she is saying, sorry but you have broken her heart, or maybe she is about to break yours

Besides the general feeling of sorrow, I've also construed it as specifically expressing regret if it pertains to one's own actions. Not an apology like seeking forgiveness (that's kaw tawt) but internally regretting a bad decision.

If it's in reference to another person's situtation it's like "so sorry for your troubles", almost but not expressing pity (song sahn).

I'm guessing you may have expressed things in your sleep that caused her shock about the past or possibly to fear for the future. Has she expressed greater than usual faith in things we would consider superstitious?
