Hey,

I'm currently on my non-imm ED student visa (I'm a university student). It's issued 24/09/11 and last for a year, with the need of a visit to collect the stamp at the immigration once every there month.

On the 26th of May I'm travelling back home to Denmark for three weeks, so I'll be back in Thailand again on the 16th of June.

So my question is: What should I do before I leave?

Went to immigration, and they told me to fill the request for re-entry permit form before I'm leaving the country, and either choose a single-entry (1,900 bath) or a multiple-entry (3,900 bath). I think the form was called TM8 or so.

I'm a little confused and would like some of your opinions.

Thanks in advance,

Emil

So, before heading back to Denmark I should fill the TM08 form to keep my visa "alive". Let's say I choose a single re-entry.

Before the 24th of September when my visa are set to expire, I'll go with the staff from the school to get another ED student visa for another year (without consulting any embassy or anything). When that is made, I need to purchase either a single or multiple entries if I want to leave the country within that year the visa is issued.

Am I correct or totally of?

Thanks

What you probably did every 3 months was making a 90 day report of your address. You now do that 90 days after you return to Thailand, and every 90 days afterwards.

But I'm not 100% sure, as you talk about a visa vali for 1 year. Do you have a multiple entry visa and need to leve the country every 90 days. Since you asked immigration about your situation and they didn't notice anything wrong, you are probably on an extension of stay.

Before I came to Thailand, I went to the embassy in Denmark with the documents I've received from the school. Then they made me "active" for an ED student visa.

Then I came down here and went with the staff from the university to the immigration office to get the 1 year visa made. I have had the visa since the 24th of September last year and I've been to the immigration to recieve my stamps as a confirmation of address and occupation every third month since the visa was issued.

I got the system figured out now.

Before I head back to Denmark (26th of May) I'll get a single re-entry made. When I come back to Thailand (16th of June) I'll go to the immigration to recieve my stamp for the last three months of my 1 year ED student visa. Then before the 1 year visa ends, I'll go with the university staff to the immigration to create a new 1 year ED student visa.

You went to immirgation for a 1 year extension of stay, not a visa. All is as immigration told you, get a re-entry permit and don't foget about reporting your address every 90 days.

You only report if you stay for 90 days in a row in Thailand, so when you leave and return to Thailand, you report 90 days after your return. You do not need to go to immigration upon return. You go 90 days after your return.

That report every 90 days is only for your address using a TM.47 and your exit means the next report is due 90 days after return (return is day one of that count). It has nothing to do with your study or occupation. And in most places is not a stamp in your passport but the bottom portion of the Tm.47 form which you return on each visit.

Just to get this straight. If one has got a multiple entry visa (non immi ED or B ) he/she HAS to leave the country at least every 3 months, otherwise the visa would automatically expire. Is that correct?

Thanks & cheers

The visa woud not expire, it remains valid and can be used for another entry. But your permisison to stay would be expired and you would be in the country illegally. As long as the visa itself is still valid, you could leave and re-enter for another 90 days.
