After staying in my concrete hole for the past few days, i have decided to get out tomorrow to celebrate some songkran, especially seeing some videos and pictures you guys posted. Am i still in time for it? When does it end?

I am located near kad suan kaew, any place to recommend for a light celebration? I am all fine at people splashing water at me, but i hate crowds and rowdy people, any place any suggestions? Love scenery, any place where i could sit down have a drink and see kids playing around? i am really really bored staying in my apartment for the past 2 days

Yes, you can just make it. Today (15) is the last day. Recommend you start noon-ish, or 1pm. To catch some of the cultural stuff you can visit a temple before the party, in the morning.

In your case I would avoid the Thapae area, though just North of Thapae should still be okay. It's also good to base youreself at/near a road side restaurant so you can have some food/drink and watch things unfold. Even though it's close to Thapae, Daret Guesthouse just North of the gate on the outside moat is a good spot.

Or too avoid most foreigners, the area arond Suan Dok gate is also good, though no suitable restaurants there to base yourself.

I know you said 'light', but you do kind of want to take in the whole scene.. So I think anything except the really out of control rounchyness you get around bar areas should be okay. If you go lighter than that then you're on main roads with faster moving traffic, which just isn't as fun.

ENJOY!

Culture is what you see around you.

It is the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes a nation, organization, or group.

Now you know.

barefoot, as mentioned, morning time for any cultural stuff. If you are in ksk way, you can probably already hear the bands playing. I went out around 10am Friday, and was able to walk about in front of ksk without masses of crowds, started getting busy by late morning/ lunchtime tho. If you want to join in, but stay relatively dry. There are a couple of places open. You could try Soho bar for example. Its more of a general hangout for the gay community here, but have never felt unwelcome. Really lovely friendly people. Its a good spot for a cold drink and great view.

Have fun!
