My work permit & non imm O finish 30/4.

I (British) live Chiangrai with 2 thai kids. (legal father with sole custody).

After exiting work permit, I want new visa for 1 or 2 months (no 400k).

What is cheapest way, without getting stung by 1 week extension or overstay fees?

1. in Maesai on 30/4, can I get 60 day non imm o extension to visit thai kids?

2. for backup plan, can I exit to Burma & come back to Thailand immediately on any kind of visa back at Maesai?

THANKS

If you have such paperwork you may be able to visit immigration when you cancel the extension of stay for work and obtain a 60 day extension of stay to visit children (expect they will need to be with you with proof of ID and you having custody/being father). Crossing the border and return will only provide 15 day visa exempt entry and if still unable to obtain 60 day extension you could make a trip to Vientiane for 60 day tourist visa entry.

I see. Thanks, that should cover me & I have paperwork for the kids.

What about paperwork/process for exiting work permit? - I need to:

1. get letter from school that I will leave the job on 30/4

2. take it to labor, to cancel Work Permit

3. take the same school letter & labor receipt to immigration at Maesai for new stamp.

Do I need to do 2. & 3. on 30/4 (last day of work permit & visa), or can I do it in advance ?

cheers

Believe they are supposed to provide a letter specific to Immigration to cancel the extension of stay and it will have to be done at end of work.

So then does the school need to provide 2 letters - 1 specific to labor & the other specific to immigration?

went few days early with kid & custody paper - immigr. v. helpful, canceled my stay & about to stamp me but the boss-check saw I already had this 60 day visa a million years ago. They said I can just borrow 400k to show & they will give me 1 year visa extension.

On last day of visa, I went for 2 week tourist visa at border, & they asked 3000bt 6 dys overstay - no prob. back to immigr office downtown & the boss wrote an explanation for them. Now to Vientienne for 60 day tourist or non-imm. Thanks

That would be best. It can be the same letter, just the person addressed too is different.

Got from school ....... 1 letter to labor (& got receipt)

...... & 1 letter to immigr which I took with the labor receipt

easy - did it all on last day of contract , then out to Tachilek for 2 week tourist

There is no longer (since 2551) any written restriction on number of times a 60 day entry can be obtained. Did you extend perhaps for work from that old 60 day extension of stay without a new entry? Vientiane should issue single entry non immigrant O visa for a 90 day stay (bit cheaper than tourist/extension so worth getting). Be sure to have all the paperwork for children.
