Hond Wave 125I

Featured Replies

Recently bought a Wave 125i, and in general seems to be a good bike.

Just some observations:

* Why on earth have they flipped the position of the indicators and the horn around? On my click, you get from top to bottom the high/low beam switch, then the indicators and on the bottom the horn switch. On the wave you get first the horn switch and below that the indicator. Very annoying when driving both bikes alternating...

* Petrol level indicator. When are they ever going to get that one right! At least this one is rather linear (i.e. not sitting at full for 80 km and then suddenly drop to empty over next 30 km), but why, when the indicator is completely below the the red empty area, there is still 2 liters left out of the 5.4 capacity? For me I'd think that having about 1 to 1.5 liter (50 - 80 km worth of petrol) left when hitting the top of the red area, and empty when at the bottom would be ok...

Apart from that, excellent bike, smooth engine, smooth power throughout the rev range, excellent starting, and of course the legendary Honda Wave "unbreakability"!

Slightly disappointing engine power, seems to be only on par with most 110cc twist and go's, both acceleration and topspeed, presumably as they all use higher compression ratio engines...

Economy is brilliant (almost 60km/l), while financially not making much of an impact, it does give a pretty good range between fill ups (over 250 km with plenty reserve, when of course totally ignoring that silly petrol indicator)...

LOL @ the petrol gauge :D

My Mio125GTX goes all the way past the red marker and into the black area of the gauge.

I'd be happier if they put a sight glass or a dip stick on the tank :D, but after a while you'll get to know the bike and be able to judge where abouts on the gauge the true empty mark is :)

As for the 'Slightly disappointing engine power' i think they have geared it quite tall/highly, which helps to keep the engine at lower revs and consume less fuel. If you wish for a little more punch you could change the rear or front sprocket and sacrifice a little top speed by doing so :)

Probably get maybe better topspeedthat way as now in top gear it comes nowhere near redline revs, unlike most auto's which hit redline or the rev limiter like on the pcx...

But for us old or should I say long time riders it does seem funny. BMW is different still

The 125 has 9.8 hp while the 110 wave has 8.9 but the 125 gets slightly better km/l and has better components as in the brakes as well as other places

I like mine. The wife has gotten over 78 km/l on it where I get closer to the rated 62 km/lL. I did change the wheels to much wider (1.85 and 2.15) and tires to good quality Donlop speed rated 80/80 front and 90/80 back much more stable and higher load capacity. I am a tall 189 cm and big 100 kilo guy so the shocks were changed too as well as a larger rear sprokert. Mine is 4 months old and we have almost 9000 km on our Wave. We have done a few longer rides looping around the north and have a circle of Thailand ride planned soon on this wave. Top speed (actual) so far is 130 kph but it does well all day with our 200 kilo load (packs and r riders) at 95 - 100 kph.

Enjoy your new ride !

Wow, 130km/h would be very fast for any 125cc 4 stroker!

Mine maxes out at 100km/h and that's with a fair bit of patience.

Additionally, 100 indicated is only 91 true (gps) km/h.

Actually, with standard sprockets, the engine would redline at 120 km/h so with a bigger rear sprocket it would redline even lower...

But it indeed runs happily at 90, with much lower revs then most other models around

You can bend the wire on the float in the tank to adjust the level reported ;)

130 kph was down hill with 200 kilos on it by GPS mine reads at 98 kph when it is going a true 100 kph

I don't have standard wheels, tires, or spockets on mine

Usually does 100 - 110 kph on the flats
