RAZZELL
The sister-in-law wants to come and visit us in the UK. I take it we use form VAF1-B for a family visit visa? Any idea what the wait times are at the moment? Many thanks RAZZ
RAZZELL
Oh...and is it better for my wife to write the "sponsors" letter? RAZZ
RAZZELL
Right she got the visa today What European country is the quickest/easiest to get a schengen? Could she get one in 3 weeks? RAZZ Edited May 10, 2012 by RAZZELL
thaigirllondon
German embassy, I have had maybe 11 now. 3 days quickest, 6 longest. Have fun . Munich is my favourite, then AMsterdam and then Paris
RAZZELL
Did you apply in Bangkok? RAZZ Edited May 10, 2012 by RAZZELL
7by7
You have to apply in your country of residence. From her nic, and her other posts, I would guess that thaigirllondon lives in London and if so she would have applied in London. If your sister-in-law lives in Thailand then she will need to apply in Bangkok. BTW, glad she got her UK visa, and apols for not replying to your questions about that!
RAZZELL
I pm'd thaigirllondon and she's used the German embassy in Bangkok, Dubai and London. Pleased we got the visa - only took 7 or 8 working days Might try for a German schengen. RAZZ Edited May 11, 2012 by RAZZELL
RAZZELL
For a schengen I see she need's health/travel insurance to the value of €30,000. List of insurance companies: https://www.tlsconta...e_th_2fr.en.pdf After a quick look I found the BUPA rates. Are they competitive? http://www.bupa.co.t...el/en/home.aspx http://www.bupa.co.t...l_PriceList.pdf Axa - but only for 90 days? http://www.axa.co.th...ttraveller-plus Mondial: http://www.worldcare.co.th/en RAZZ Edited May 13, 2012 by RAZZELL

RAZZELL
Maybe in the UK etc...but applying for a Schengen in Thailand you have to be on the approved list of insurance companies... https://www.tlscontact.com/th2fr/upload/travel_health_insurance_th_2fr.en.pdf RAZZ
thaigirllondon
That seems silly. Insurance from a multinational insurance company covers all countries, who cares where it is bought from? I will check tonight about where I got insurance when I applied in Bangkok.

The list provided by RAZZELL is up to date.
thaigirllondon
Hi Razzel I just checked through all old applications forms and docs (I am a horder ) and I submitted, at one time, my company health and security insurance which also covers overseas travel healthcare and security emergencies (because of my past job's nature). It was issued by Zurich insurance. Later I did indeed source insuarance, on another trip, from moneysupermarket but I cannot find that doc. Seems to go against the advice BUT it was not questioned. I am unsure why perhaps because I am the frequent traveller and a passport only lasts me maybe 2-3 years due to all the stamps. Strange.
7by7
Requirements etc. change and are updated. Better to go with the latest official list rather than what someone did a few years ago.
RAZZELL
The wife got a very helpful email from someone at BUPA. BUPA gold Plus 7,495 baht - It's multi-trip and valid for 6 months, Schengen applications and also in the UK. RAZZ
