You get used to double standards here, it took me a while to adjust but I'm used to it now. Actually I find it rather entertaining the level of indignation that some members can generate.

I agree. It's funny to see all those who valiantly defended Yingluck's use of her phone whilst attending a funeral, now turning up with the indignation at a story that bears a lot of similarities and parallels... accept of course this is a Dem MP and not a minor godess.

It was obviously Thaksin's fault. Evil dictator!

No, no. Fugitive evil ex-dictator.

No, no. Herioc marytr, man of the people, law-abiding, unfairly persecuted, unjustly treated, valiant, democracy-loving, uncorruptable former PM.

Imagine when the porn was not flashed by a Democrat but by a coalition MP. The sect of Chamlong would already be out on the street protesting against un-Buddhist behavior in parliament. I bet that the democrat MP was about to be exposed and therefore came out himself. The blame it on the hackers nonsense could not hold anymore. It is a shame the little fagot is now pointing his finger to a journalist. Grow up become a man not a porn watching Kathoey and tell the world that it was you not a wrongly tagged picture. If it was a tag, it means you did not do your homework and did not review your presentation. This is an example of a man who would never have made it past the concierge's office if his papa was not an MP also. If corruption did not exist in Thailand these people would not stand a chance. The MP could however refer to another shining example the former Democrat chairman Sanan, who was accused of rapiong a journalist. maybe the picture was destined for Sanan than?.

"Sanan, who was accused of raping a journalist" - couldn't find anything on that. Was he charged? Or was it just a rumour?

"This is an example of a man who would never have made it past the concierge's office if his papa was not an MP also." - That would apply to quite a few wives, sons, daughters, relatives of politicians ... particularly politicians that are currently banned. (edit: right on cue, the daughter of a banned ex-PM has just been banned herself for a false asset declaration)

Now, the pictures that really should be on the social networks are those of ALL the MPs who demonstrate they have better things to do in parliament - when they are actually in parliament - then concentrate on the business of the day.

Ha Ha, very clever the way you have twisted my comment to suit your own agenda. But this is part of the fun, is it not?

Is it just me, or have a number of posters apparently swapped-personalities today, Scary or what ! ermm.gifrolleyes.gif

Well, I think that is the point of the post. Both inappropriate actions but one gets pages of vitriolic abuse, the other silence.

Perhaps it escaped your attention, but the Yingluck using phone at funeral thread also got pages of justification and excuses.

From my point of view, the actions of both Yingluck and Nutt were disrespectful and deserve condemnation.

They both deserve warning, not condemnation.

Disagree. Yingluck deserves condemnation for not acting respectfully. How would she like it if she was dead and the people who came to pay their respects were all absorbed in updating their facebook pages? If i was dead and i saw people doing that at my funeral, i'd tell them to piss off back home and that i would go about the process of moving onto my next life by myself... obviously i would have to put them in their places via a clairvoyant...

Jokes aside, yes condemnation for her.

As for Nutt, he is being paid very well by all us tax payers, so fine, if he wants to titillate himself, do so on one of the many occasions when he skips off early for a game of golf, or when he is having an expensive meal on his expenses account with mates, don't do it when you are sitting in parliament pretending to work. Condemnation for him too.

Anyway, quite how you manage to warn people, with no element of condemnation present in the warning, i really don't know.

This happens everywhere.

Western countries inc, no exceptions.

Mobile phones a plague on society despite their amazing usefulness

I'm inclined to think you are probably right, although don't know enough about the achievements or lack thereof, of the individual concerned, to make that call with certainty.

It's an interesting observation anyway, when coming from the Yingluck rose to CEO and PM on her own merits brigade.

Nepotism rules in all S.E.A., include India too.

Yes sadly you are right. For me though, those at the top of society so to speak, have a duty to lead the way, to set the example, especially so when these people are being paid by the state.

The moment we just shrug our shoulders and say, this is the way it is, this is normal behaviour, is the moment all hope is lost.

Where is Bucholz and his entourage to the lead the screams of shock? The man was inappropriately using his cell phone and admits to it because he was caught. When the PM's image was shown of her looking at her phone, Bucholz and his entourage demanded action. Well, where is that gang now? Why so silent.

Am I to take it that they agree with this Democrat party MP and his taste for pornographic pictures? I am not surprised.

Not lost hope, just realize they are as fallible as the rest of 'us'. I'm sure there is far worse in the west, although here is the wrong place to discuss it.

As another said, it's NOT porn. Should he be using a phone during a parliamentary session, no. But hardly worth as much outrage and news as it's getting. Surely there is much more WORTHY news out there.

The fact that the image was inadvertently displayed on big screens in parliament is i think what made it a bigger story than it otherwise would have been.

Fair enough. Good point, but everyone is talking about HIM and not about THAT (which I agree is a much larger issue).

I think the one on his cell phone had nothing to do with the one on the big screen two completely separate issues.

Yepp you are right... i think certain people are talking about him because he is a Dem MP and they think that everyone who found it appalling that Yingluck was using her phone whilst supposedly paying respects at a funeral, by default must be Democrat supporters that will rush to defend him... at which point they can jump up and down with shouts of "hypocrite". Obviously i can't speak for others who condemned Yingluck's behaviour, but i am not a Democrat supporter and i am not rushing to defend this stupid Dem MP who most likely owes his position to his surname, just like Yingluck.

I think this quote says it all:

He(Chuwit Kamolvisit, Rak Prathet Thai party-list MP) also accused several MPs of misbehaviour.

"Some raised their legs and put them on the desk. Some even slept and snored. And some were seen watching betting lists," he said.

What's very strange though is that both incidents happened at exactly the same time, and it feels to me that some journalists have been warned or at least been notified ahead of time by the perp(s)....

Her Excellency was not the only one reading an sms. If you had watched you would have seen who else.

So that makes it ok?

No one kew what her Excellency was actually reading. It culd have been an emergency SMS or a recipe for somtam.

No one said a word about the other person with the cell phone. In fact no mention in the newspapers.

Do I care if an MP looked at an sms in the house iif it was work relaed? No.

Is there a double standard? Yes. Abhisit hasn;t said anything has he?

Open to interpretation in Thailand. I do not consider it pornographic and I doubt most westerners would. However, in Thailand, they have a different approach to what is acceptable. This is a place where it is ok to post graphic images of dead people, but anything racey is a nono.

Not really open to interpretation. Pick up a Thai issue of Penthouse sometime, they have perfectly legal topless magazines here. They show topless women in movies at the theatre. This image isn't even topless, they show racier pics in Thai Maxim. It is fine, legally. Inappropriate to be looking at in parliament, perhaps.

In the old days, all Thai women walk about in village tipless, and no one even stare.

And sat around with their legs wide open ???

<snip>

This isn't related to the naked lady being flashed up on screen. That incident still has no explanation. This was just a guy who got his picture snapped looking at a pic on his cellphone during parliament

With all due respect;

1. It was a man using his phone in the House when is was not supposed to and,

2. It was an MP with a solemn duty of upholding Thailand's laws, which include a ban on degrading pornographic images.

The fellow screwed up big time.

Yeah, he got caught!

So you defend the PM using her phone during a funeral service, but have a problem with an MP using a phone during a debate in parliament?

Her Excellency was not the only one reading an sms. If you had watched you would have seen who else.

"Her Excellency"? Is that really her formal title? Just curious. I thought PM might even be on the weak side.

The most obvious difference between the MP and PM's phone use is that he is in parliament, something she rarely manages.
