Insulting Stunt Doesn't Help With Reconciliation: Thai Opinion

I was surprised how poor Thaksin's singing ability really is. I should have thought that all those late night sessions with Lydia giggle.gif would have improved his vocals.

On a slightly more serious note, he might have fared better singing that great Stones hit "I can't get no satisfackshun".

With his stylish shades, there may be a future for him in Las Vegas doing Elvisguitar.gifermm.gif

Singing is not good, but his ability as comedian or clown are world-class. That movie is one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

I find it ironic that Thaksin chose Let It Be as the melody for his song. The English language lyrics to this song are about inner peace being found through religion, at least that's what I interpret the song to mean. Quite the opposite of the controversial lyrics which Thaksin sang in Thai.

And one can interpret the lyrics to mean exactly was was sweetly warbled: To let it be and to move on. Those who don't want peace can go screw themselves as they aren't worth the time. It's actually a positive message: Life is too short to waste it on whiners and malcontents.

And this years winner of the Nobel Obsequies Prize goes to the man who put the Geriatric

(def: an older person considered as one who may be disregarded as senile or unable to look after his or her own best interests.)

in Geriatrickid, it is our own, our unique, our sun stroked elderperson fresh from a tour in the balcony with Stadler and Waldorf.....Geriatrickid!!

Geriatrickid, you have solved a major dilemma for me, I have been trying to explain to my little girl how and when to use the phrases 'lost the plot' and 'get a grip on reality', and now I have the perfect examples, thank you for coming to my aid.

Reminds me of the old TV shows I watched as a kid with chimpanzees as the stars with English voice overs

Animal Magic?

I hate you both with a passion now. THAT tune is going round and round my head and won't stop, only to be briefly interrupted by visions of Johnny Morris. Wheres the key to the cocktail cabinet!

I showed this video to my partner, she did not find it offensive, rather she said he seemed sad and wanted to come home. i asked did it insult Thais or Thailand, she said no. So I am left perplexed do I believe Bucholtz and company or Geriatrickid? Not speaking Thai I have to assume both put their own slant on it and so cancel each other out.

So my only comment is Thaksin cannot sing.

This is clearly a class-act

Ricardo, my apologies for pointing out a presumed error in your post # 4.

However I do wonder if you actually inserted the phonic blend '' cl '' in error when writing the word class.whistling.gif

Yes ... I had considered the phrase 'Lack-of-Class Act', but feel it's often better to attempt to use humour, as for example :-

Thaksin Shinawatra is known as a man who likes to contradict himself.

Oh no he isn't.

"Oh Yes He Is, Isn't He Children ?" , with apologies to 'Mr Punch' & supporting cast. tongue.png

Now back to the "quality debate" ...

Geriatric Kid

Never mind your pro-Red pro-Thaksin politics. I disagree with them but I had assumed - still assume - that you are a Thai-speaking, long term resident. You must surely realise, then, that this isn't just a harmless 'piece of fun', but the sort of deep, gutter insult that gets you shot, just like that, in this Land of Smiles.

Well I think it is past insult.....

The Democrats and Yellows I know watched it with wide open eyes and mouth....speechless.

Never seen that before. But they don't seem to be angry. It is just too strange.......it seems he really lost the connection to the real world and is now in his own lalala world.

Yes, the emotional tone is sad and pathetic. Acting like a sad homesick old man. Is that all he is? Think again.

...and on the flip side, another butchered Beatle classid 'Imagine'

I. Imagine there's no justice, I wonder if you can

No one to bust you, for running from the law

Imagine all the people, rooting for a thug.

You may say I'm too greedy

but I'm not the only one

I hope some day, you'll back me

and I'll be the richest one

II. Imagine there's no taxes, no paying sums for nought

Only tax for dummies, no tax for firms I've bought.

Imagine all the people, chanting for my ego.

You may say I'm egotistical

but I'm not the only one

I hope some day you'll adore me

'cause I'll be the greatest one

Also butchered:

sung to the tune; Somewhere Over the Rainbow.......

Somewhere, over the border, riches wait.

I will, re-turn to Thailand, Reds say it is my fate.

All Thais will adore me, or else they should

I'll promise riches to all, new cars in every neighborhood.

Somewhere, over the border, justice fails

If I can't - bribe a judge, then I'll run off without bail.

He can sing: Queen - I'm Going Slightly Mad.

He can even keep the original lyrics.....

"Reconciliation"

I don't know why the Nation is so obsessed with that word.

PTP doesn't want reconciliation

Thaksin does not want it

the Democrats don't want it

the yellow shirts don't want it

the red shirts don't want it

100% correct. Which gives credence to my assertion that reconciliation is as meaningless a word in the Thai context as 'democracy'. Both words hijacked by Thaksin's PR advisers in order to manipulate ....etc etc (continued on page 91)

Is there anything that Thaksin does that you disagree with.....just curious

You're a bunch of old cynics aren't you?

Clearly he needs the voice coach to come back but I think he may well have been a chorister in a past life.

He's just starting out. Bar mitzvas etc Chinese = jewish n'est pas?

He's a card, maybe a national treasure. Somebodies like him.

We await Mark and the Dem's reposte however he is a fan of heavy metal.

What could he sing? Something from ACDC?

Perhaps something with some porn in it?

I know.

Michael Jackson's "Killer."

Then we'll be on the same page.

Geeze Louise... McCartney should sue him big time.

Besides the butchering of the song, he is also

being contemptible in the sentiment he is expressing

which is so opposing to the songs actual sentiments.

Truly a sad, sad individual.

Don't cry for me Rachisima by St. Madonawatra

It won't be easy, you'll think I'm stranger

When I try to explain how I feel

That I still need your love after all that I've done

You won't believe me

All you will see is a PM you once knew

Although I'm dressed up to the nines,

All '60's and 70's to you

I had to let it happen, I had to derange.

Couldn't stay so belly up to the trough

Looking out of penthouse, staying out of limelight

So I chose freedom

Taking a runner, escaping anew

But some thing depressed me ; my fall

I never expected it, true.

Don't cry for me Rachisima

The truth I never told you

All through my blunders

My mad resistance

I kept my profits

Don't take your taxes.

And as for fortune, and as for face

They have been stolen

Though it's known to the world, they were all I desired

They were just illusions

I've not solutions, I'd promised to thee

The answer I've hidden is crime

I love you and hope you love me

Don't cry for me Ratchisima

The truth would only bore you

I took grand percentages

Stiffled most resistance

I want my money

So drop your sentence

Have I said too much?

There's no truths more I can think of to say to you.

But all you have to do is look at me to know

That every word is true

Don't cry for me Rachisima

The truth I never told you

All through my blunders

My mad resistance

I kept my profits

Don't take your taxes.

Imagine there's no Thaksin

Nothing to kill or die for

And no corruption too

Imagine all the thais living life in peace

You, you may say

I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one

I hope some day you'll join us

And Thailand will be as one

FWIW, Paul McCartney wrote thie song in 1969. Religion may have now't to do with it. Mother Mary may be his Mum, who died when he was young.

I read your other post the other day about the Bomb attempt against Thaksin being fake.

Balls.

Please keep up.

PS go view Wikipedia and heh what about Wikileaks and the $10000 hit alluded to by none other than Prem.

Well after Thaksin there will be....

That's right. More of the same.

Get used to it.

It's called Democracy and as imperfect as Thaksin is he is just the latest in not a very long line (begun by Pridi Banomyong, one of my heroes) of thais who wish for REAL change.

Such examination has been made over Thaksin as to threaten anyone in the future defying the powers that be (in a police state).

Look at the false imprisonment of Thaksin's lawyers over the land deal as a warning to those out there who might try to challenge the system.

BB's appalling take on a great song was an embarrassment to himself and Thailand.

Maybe he should have gone with another Beatles classic....

"Let me tell you how it will be

One for you, nineteen for me

'Cause I'm the Thaksman.......

... and you're working for no one but me."

False imprisonment? Is bribing judges allowed where you come from?

The only change Thaksin wanted was for himself to be at the top of the heap.

If you think Thaksin wishes for REAL change you are deluded. All he wishes for is money and power, and if throwing some crumbs at the poor helps enable him to this goal, well that is a sacrifice he is prepared for the Thai tax payer to make.

Are you talking about the lawyers who openly tried to bribe the judges?

Continuing the Beatles theme......... "You never give me your money..."

BTW, any truth in the rumour that the red shirts wanted to show the movie "All The Presidents Men"

Of course it was cancelled when they realised it was not about them at all but a national leader exposed as a liar and a cheat!

Going back to my young adult days 1960 ish I would think that Thaksins performance would have indeed earned him accolades and plaudits from Private Eye as he would have no doubt been mentioned in the same breath as the following musicians.

Spiggy Topes and The Turds

The name used by Private eye whatever band was currently in the news.

Wasn't Pridi Banomyong ban from Thailand; not unlike Thaksin.

Maybe Babcock is referring to the lack of precedence as no one was imprisoned when the judges were bribed in the assets concealment case?
