Being Made Part Owner Of A Company

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

My name has officially been written into documents making me a part owner of a company based here in Thailand.

Without going into too many details, can/will this make a difference to my visa? (Currently non-o spousal)

The company is quite large (1000+ employees) as is the annual cash flow and is a family owned company (on my wifes side)

I'm not boasting but more worrying if this may cause issues for me further down the track and/or can/am I elligable for another visa type? I'm not worried about my current visa and I am flying in and out of the country enough to have it stamped every 3 months.

I know I should probably get in contact with a lawyer but me being lazy as I am, I would rather gather some opinions first.

Thanks guys, hope you're all enjoying the heat! :)

James

Has no effect on your visas.

Thank you very much. Exactly the answer I was looking for.

Cheers,

James

It will have no effect on your Visa status however bear in mind that if you do any work for the Company - even signing cheques - you should have a Work Permit.

Ferangs can be scapegoated when companies go wrong. You'd be better off opening your own company in order to get a work permit & letting the bigger company sub-contract your services.

I understand that. That's why I don't sign a thing. I also don't do a thing either so i'm pretty safe. Thanks for the heads up though.

Cheers,

From what the OP said he is just a shareholder of a company, nothing more. The fact that other shareholders are related to his wife does not make his rights and obligations and different from what they would be if he owned shares of any other company. Rights: attending shareholders' meetings. Obligations: none, unless some restrictions regarding the transfer of share certificates are written into the articles of association, which would not really be an obligation but a limitation of rights. Certainly nothing affecting the status of his permission to stay.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
