Applied today for a Schengen visa at the Swedish embassy.

Spent the entire frustrating day there.

Have had several Schengen visas in the past . .Italy, Greece, Denmark . . .never a problem.

We will spend four days in Sweden and five days in Italy.

They evidently have a rule that you have to apply for the Schengen visa in the country you will spend the most time in?

So we have to now change our plans to spend five days inSweden and four days in Italy?

I thought you applied to the country you land in first??

Anybody ever heard about this??

PS. Never got the visa

They will not approve it if you are not spending the majority of the time in their country. This has been posted here many times am afraid to add.

Hint - If anyone applies for a schengen visa and wants to travel, do not mention it, just say you will stay in the one country and have the hotels and flight details to confirm this.

But don't do what I did and say your last day in the Schengen zone is the last day in that particular country or you'll end up with a multiple entry visa valid for 5 days.. vampire.gif

Officially you are supposed to apply to:-

  1. The country you will be visiting, or
  2. If visiting more than one country, the one you will be spending the most time in, or
  3. If touring, the country you will enter the Schengen area via.

However, once you have the visa it is valid for all Schengen states, so it doesn't really matter if you enter the area via a different country to the one which issued the visa, or even if you don't visit the issuing country at all!. If questioned (unlikely) simply say that your plans have changed.
