HI,

I made an abortive attempt earlier this year to get to a 12 month Non Imm 0 Visa purpose retirement.

I went the 30 day Tourist Visa - 90 day Extension - 12 Month retirement route at Chiang Mai.

I know this is available as I visited & spoke with them - they were most helpful - plus had confirmation from a number of folks who have taken that route.

But the bit I messed up on was not knowing that the 800k had to be there at the 30 to 90 transition.

OK so the Thai Account with 800k is now covered but I am in Malaysia right now.

Does anyone know if I can get straight to the 90 days Non Imm O Visa purpose retirement at the Thai Embassy Penang??

I know I can get a 90 tourist Visa there - but unsure of the Non Imm O purpose retirement Visa .

Anyone out there with experience??

Best Rds.

Believe they will issue single entry visa with proof you over age 50 and plan to extend for retirement. Nothing lost is asking. Cost will be the same (other than exchange loss) as doing in Chiang Mai. The visa itself is not for retirement but for (other) reasons which also covers family and most other uses outside of business/education.

Hi Lopburi3,

Thnxs for that. I am old, old - 55 holds no fears..

After first debacle - wandering out of Immi Offiice in Chiang Mai - totally dejected - Wife now figures I could not 'plan myself out of a wet paper bag'.

I am in Melaka right now but figure a coach up to Penang preferable to a flight up to Chiang Mai - at east to get ball rolling.

Let you know what transpires in Penang.

Rgds.

I would try the Embassy in Kuala Lumpur rather than going all the way to Penang. They currently appear to be easier for visa issue than Penang and discount air flights available should make it cheaper.

I am back up to KL shortly as it happens - will give it a go.

Only problem may be that my UK 'Police Good Conduct' papers are now 9 months old and counting due to the delays and I think they have to be within 6 months.

Not needed at Chiang Mai - but I think the Kl people like to see them - nevertheless - as stated will give it a go.

Let you know.

Police check papers are only required for an O-A visa, which you can only apply for in your country of residence.

I guess you are applying for a non-O visa and no police check is required for that.
