Jet Lag

Featured Replies

Hi anyone got tips on how to get over jet lag flying from UK to Thailand....

Thanks

:)

sleep on the plane if you can ,as much as possible

then you wont be so tired when the jetlag hits

Not suffered with jetlag on that route.

My method is get on plane have 2/3 glasses of wine then have the inflight meal. Put on noise cancelling headphones take a sleeping tablet and I normally wake up about an hour out from BKK. No jet lag and ready to go out and party !

Noise cancelling headphones :)

Ask your doctor about Zolpidem.

Called Stilnox where I live.

Half a tablet and you will sleep the night like a baby with no after effects.

One two nights and you will be in the local routine.

Can be addictive, so care is needed.

Also be aware that some people are prone to DVT. Sleeping the whole trip after taking a sleeping pill can be dangerous for some.

Personally, I would forget about jet lag. Do not drink or eat too much on the flight (other than lots of water), get up and walk around as often as you can. Do not drink too much coffee.

When you arrive at your destination, again have a good walk around, do not go to sleep until the normal time at the destination.

Get up with the sun the next morning, again have a walk in the bright sunlight. That helps reset your circadian rhythms.

Do not drink too much alcohol or eat too much until you are back into synch.

I would assume you are using BA or Thai, as they are direct and that could cause some Jet lag, my wife had on BA.

Best idea is to sleep as much as you can, it is a long flight, if you can handle it a few alcoholic drinks then sleep, if not then get some tablets to help you. My wife kept waking up as the seats were not that comfortable, then the other problem being when you get here it is late afternoon and nearly time for bed again so your internal clock gets messed up.

Stay awake until you get to Bangkok. Time your flight to arrive in Bangkok in the evening. Check in to your hotel then go out and have a few beers until around midnight. Go to bed and sleep until you wake up. Expect to be a bit sleepy in the evening of the next day. Go to bed at 11ish PM. After that you'll be ok.

I'm looking at a 15hr flight to New York from BKK and I'm dreading it...I plan to lay off all booze and to sleep as much as possible on the flight...what's the best OTC available sleeping medication for this purpose?

Never suffered it flying west to east. The other way was the problem for me.

Yes time your flight to arrive in the evening and don't go out, just hang out and try to get a good nights' sleep on arrival.

Try starting to adjust your sleeping patterns in the BKK direction for a few days before leaving.

Don't use pills, no or very little alcohol, solid sleep the night before and on the plane (some say only during destination night time during the trip, but I just get as much as I can), eat lightly, lots of water, maybe vitamin B & C if you believe in supplements.

Force yourself to get up and be very active the first morning, let yourself get all tired out during the day, no naps, another early night if you can manage it and from then on you should be fine.

Some say melatonin before going to sleep for the first few days here, I haven't found it necessary.

Your body clock won't be truly optimal for a week, no way around that.
