Love him or hate him millions of Thais adore him. It is their country after all. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion though.

I personally hate people that instigate violence, create mob-rule, don't give a s..t about the law, always create conspiracies to keep the reds on their toes and have a master that has terrible human rights records, robs the country empty, runs away from the law and continues his propaganda from a safe haven.

Who are you people referring too?

Please be careful. Be very careful, as your IPs are logged and will readily hand over to the police in case of any complaints from anyone.

I thought it was clear they were talking about Thaksin. Are you going to report me to the police now?

PM Firm against Amending Lese Majeste Law

The prime minister affirms that the government has no plan to amend the Criminal Code's Article 112 on lese majeste.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra insisted that the government will not meddle with the attempt for the amendment of the Criminal Code's Article 112 on lese majeste launched by the Campaign Committee for the Amendment of Article 112.

Yingluck noted that the matter was already discussed by government coalition parties and conclusion was reached.

The Campaign Committee for the Amendment of Article 112 said today that they will submit, along with their petition of 27,296 signatures, their proposed amendment to the criminal code (article 112) to Parliament this Tuesday,

Yingluck will have no choice then but to "meddle."

The Campaign Committee for the Amendment of Article 112 group said 38,281 people signed the petition, but 10,360 of the signatures were found to be invalid.

In accordance with the constitution which dictates that to petition Parliament for amendments requires the signatures of at least 10,000 eligible voters, they have easily completed that with their 20,000 plus.

Today, the group said they would march from the Royal Plaza to submit their amendment proposal to Parliament.

BANGKOK: -- The so-called Campaign Committee for Amendment of Article 112 and red-shirt people gathered at the Royal Plaza Tuesday morning to stage a march to Parliament to submit a bill to amend lese-majesty law.

They gathered at the Royal Plaza at 8:50 am and moved to Parliament at 9:40 am.

They carried with them boxes containing 26,968 names of eligible voters, who have given signatures to sponsor a bill to amend Article 112 of the Criminal Code.

The demonstrators were led by Charnwit Kasetsiri and Puangthong Pawakharaphan.

Pheu Thai MP Prasit Chaisrisa came to the rally to express his moral support for the demonstrators.

Group Demands Change to Lese Majeste Law

A group opposing Article 112 of the Constitution is gathering in front of the Parliament to submit a petition of more than 27,000 signatures to demand a change in the lese majeste law.

A group opposing Article 112 of the Charter, commonly known as the lese majeste law, led by former rector of Kasetsart University, Chanwit Kasetsiri, has marched from the Royal Plaza to the Parliament today.

The group has also submitted a petition of more than 27,000 signatures to the Parliament to demand a change to Article 112, claiming that the law is oppressive to the people's basic rights and freedom of expression.

The group members are also challenging the lawmakers to modify the laws and vowed to continue fighting until their demand is met.

Ahh yes, Pheu Thai MP Prasit...

That reasonable thinking man from this time last month...

Pheu Thai MP Prasit Chaisrisa said Nutt should hang himself to escape the shame he has brought on Parliament

The only honest thing PTP have said since they came to office is they want a healthy young man to hang himself over a saucy photo. That is their true unedited heart.

A couple of other aspects of MP Prasit saying Nutt should hang himself to escape the shame he has brought on Parliament.

That a Police Sargent-Major would make such a bizarre statement would indicate he's never attended a successful suicidal hanging in the course of his police work.

That a Red Shirt Leader would make such a bizarre statement is unsurprising.

Prasit is both.

He certainly adds extreme legitimacy for any issue by any group.

The Campaign Committee for the Amendment of Article 112 group have delivered their petition to Parliament.

The draft legislation was accepted by Deputy House Speaker and Pheu Thai Party MP Wisut Chainarun.

All in all, during the "peaceful protest" there were, IIRC, around 90 bombings of different kinds.

Which reminds me, whatever happened with the case of the PTP MP connected to the Red Shirt bomber that blew up half a condo?

Rally calls for lese majeste changes

The Campaign Committee for Amendment of Article 112 pushed its attempt to change the lese majeste law yesterday by submitting a draft which has been supported by almost 40,000 people.

The group, led by historian and former Thammasat University rector Charnvit Kasetsiri, proposes reducing the penalties in Article 112 of the criminal code, currently set at 3-15 years in jail. They are also calling for the article to be dropped from national security-related laws.

About 300 supporters of the group, including red-shirt leader Jaran Ditapichai, gathered at the Royal Plaza at 9am before marching to Parliament House with 12 boxes of gathered signatures and documents.

People in the rally held posters and banners with messages such as "the right to get bail for the people", and "112 change is not toppling the monarchy", while shouting "112 must be changed".

Deputy House Speaker Wisut Chainaroon received the draft proposal. Among 39,185 signatures the group gathered and submitted, 26,968 were complete with required documents.

The representatives who presented the law draft included Charnvit, historian and political critic Nidhi Eoseewong, Tham-masat law expert Worachet Pakeerut, Chulalongkorn political scientist Puangthong Pawakapan, Rawee Siri-issaranant, alias "Wad Rawee" of the Saeng Samnuek Writers group, and Yukti Mukda-wijitra of Thammasat's Faculty of Sociology and Anthropology.

Under the 2007 Constitution, 10,000 eligible voters can propose a law in the section of rights and freedom and the fundamental policies of the country.

Wisut said the proposal would be considered fairly like other law proposals. But it might take three to four months to verify the signatures.

Puangthong said people accused of violating Article 112 were hit with heavy penalties, such as 10, 13 or 20 years imprisonment. They did not receive merciful conduct or get bail.

Better still would be to get rid of Article 112 altogether. It is a pathetically backward law which protects nothing and is only about hate. Thailand will always be considered as a 3rd-rate, backwater country until this law is gone.

Both Yingluck and Thaksin have said there will be no changes to the law.

Deputy PM Chalerm has even established an LM "War Room" to scrutinize for even additional offenders.

some very recent reiteration of her earlier voiced opinion....

Chalerm opposes lese-majeste law amendment

BANGKOK, 21 March 2013 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Chalerm Yubumrung has said that he will oppose an amendment to the lese-majeste law, even though the government has not yet drawn conclusion on the issue.

Chalerm said that the government has not yet discussed an amendment to Article 112 of the Criminal Code, also known as the lese-majeste law. He added, however, that if the amendment is proposed, he will personally oppose it.

Article 112 of the Criminal Code states that any person who "insults, commits libel against, or threatens the King, the Queen, the Heir Apparent, or the Regent" shall be liable to imprisonment of between 5 and 15 years.

Critics have argued that the fact that the article is categorised as national security law, any person could file a charge against anybody else, leading to tentative abuse of the law, and possibly being used as a political weapon.

The government has maintained its stance of not amending the law.

A petition to amend the law was submitted to parliament last year by activists who gathered about 40,000 signatures, but the amendment draft was discarded by the House Speaker.

The Red Shirt faithful certainly aren't getting any progress for their cause by teaming up with the ruling Pheu Thai Party.

But at least the Red Shirt Leaders are being helped out by PTP's associate sub-division, the DSI.

.

The Department of Special Investigation has found no cause to invoke the lese majeste law against Pheu Thai MP Jatuporn Promphan, DSI director-general Tarit Pengdith said yesterday.

I'm confused. You post this without comment. But your posting history shows you thoroughly approve of the PM's and Chalerm's position. Why not be honest and admit it?

Your sympathies seem aligned with the PTP on this issue.

I posted a news update.

Rather than comment on the news update itself, you post on what you perceive as to what my opinion is on a subject, than carry it further and project on whose position I approve of, and top it off with an over-personalized attack insinuating dishonesty.

And all of that because I posted an update to the news.

As said yesterday, try harder with your self-admitted effort to address a topic itself and refrain from these derogatory personal attacks.
