Yes for sure, nobody talks about the great success stories, of which i am hopeful there will be many, including my own.

I haven't seen the Doco yet, but seems like a poignant story, of a Welshman, bedazzled by the easy & accessible pussy.

Possibly suffering his own mid life crisis.

Who commits to a rural life in Isaan, sells everything, buys his wife a farm, and when the money runs out, gets booted off the farm in his wife's name.

I mean it's not a quantum leap to think that couldn't happen to me, fall in love with the romantic notion of a rural life in Isaan.

I guess it come down to "what is love" & what we westerners see as love, and what a Thai bar girl sees as love... Are two very different definitions.

I sure the cynics and hard <deleted> here will sneer and gloat at what an idiot he was.

But for me, it's hard not to have a little compassion in my heart for what happened to him.

He was 46, same age as me, Isaan Girl like him, couldn't believe, that young Thai ladies can be interested in men my age. maybe I see a little of him in me.

It beggars belief that he could put all his faith into her though, or does it!

For me, it just sounded a lot of alarm bells, about taking more time, and putting binding financial agreements in place, early in the peace.

In the trailer, there is a classic line the girl uses about love she says "I cannot eat or drink your love".

That sounds so callous, but I guess that's maybe the essence of the Doco!

Time to take stock, and look very deeply at my situation.

I haven't seen it so I'll reserve judgement, but isn't it about time we had documentaries that dont follow the bad sterotype. Yes, there are many sad stories, but so are there in farangland.

You would think that there isnt any Thai bride success stories. A bit of balance wouldnt go amiss.

I think you hit the nail on the head when u said 'taking more time'. Too many guys rush in head first after a few months. Any relationship needs time to settle in. You have spoken about putting things in place financially and legally so just keep thinking with the correct head.

Your GF was not a bargirl though, so there is some difference. Any relationship that starts as a commercial agreement usually sets the tone for the future.

I have said it before and I will say it again.....

Happy good news stories don't surface too often because people like reading about misery. There are far too many cynics out there that just love a good drama. Once a monger gets married and things go well most of them don't ever bother coming back on the forums. That's why we only hear the bad stories. Yes of course there are plenty of unlucky guys out there and maybe I will end up being one more statistic but look around guys. If you really think Thailand has the majority on marriage break ups then maybe you just don't get out much.

As a request from the filmamker himself, can this thread be locked, as it is highly unlikely to be shown in the kingdom, as some of the people portrayed in the film, have personal reasons why they would rather it not be shown.

I believe we should abide by his wishes.

thank you

Sheesz!! The film maker himself could has censored the doco himself if he was worried. Or he could have cut out the incriminating bits. It is called the World Wide Web for a reason.

He has indicated to me that some people in the Doco, have since "moved on" in the meantime, even though film releases were signed, it's unlikely to be shown in Thailand.

I think we should respect his wishes.

In emails he comes across as a very decent guy.

Unless someone comes up with a source it is seemingly unlikely any of us will get to see it, Thailand or not.

Of course by him saying he doesn't want people in Thailand to watch it....well you just want to watch it all the more!

an all too familiar story but Im sorry these women are c**** s no other word for it, despite the men being stupid it tells me far more about the women, I loathe them. Scum of the earth leeches...........am I being too hard.........? No I didnt think sowhistling.gif

If you meet a women under a business contract, expect a business contract. And business is about making money.

I dont know the circumstances of the women, but the stereotype dictates she was poor. If I was that poor I would do all I could to get out the situation, just like she did.

If its the lies that bother you, how many on here have lied to women to get them in bed or promised to call again?

This seems like a mix of a poor aim at publicity on something obscure and a bad try of pretending to want to keep it quiet. It probably won't show in Thailand or in most other countries. With a bit of publicity like this, it may eventually be seen somewhere.

Least he's not been fed to the pigs...

My Thai Bride

Ted is a 46 year-old salesman from Wales. He is divorced, feels marginalised by middle age and is tired of life in the ‘nanny state’.Ted is a frequent visitor to Thailand as a result of his job in an import business. He revels in the freedom he finds in a country where everything is for sale at the right price; including the beautiful young women who want to be with him.

Ted meets Tip who is working in the Rooster Bar. She is in her mid thirties, from the northeastern Issan region, the poorest part of Thailand. Like many Issan women, Tip is uneducated and could never earn enough to own her house or educate her child. She hates the thought of her daughter growing up to be involved in prostitution. When she meets Ted, she thinks she has finally found a foreigner who will take care of her and her daughter.Ted returns to the UK, but stays in contact with Tip by telephone. He sends her money so she can give up her bar job and return to her family’s farm in her village, Krasang.

After a few months, at Tip’s request, Ted returns to Thailand and marries her. Ted liquidates his assets in Wales and sinks his money into building a house and piggery on Tip’s family farm. He soon discovers there are many other foreign men who have married and settled in northeast Thailand. For many Issan women, marriage to a foreigner provides a way out of debt and a lifetime of difficult work. In northeast Thailand, marriage to a foreigner has become an industry.

John, an Australian, says that there are about 90 foreigners living within a five-kilometre radius and that new foreigners arrive every week. Larry, an American, built his wife a large, luxurious house in Krasang. Larry believes she does love him, even though she tells him she doesn’t. Grant’s wife Pon says that when she took Grant home to Krasang, her friends and relatives all came over to her house to see the foreigner, because they couldn’t believe she got one.

Within 12 months, Ted’s hopes for a better life have been dashed. His money has disappeared much faster than he expected. Tip and her family don’t seem to want him around the farm anymore. When Ted asks Tip if she loves him, she says: “I can’t eat or drink your love.” Ted leaves the farm destitute and wonders whether it had been a con all along.

Ted rents a room in a nearby town. After surviving on credit for several months, Ted begs Tip to give him some of his money back. But she is only willing to buy him a one-way ticket back to the UK.Economically, Ted and Tip have traded places and Ted has learned what his Thai wife already knew: without money, you lose everything.

My Thai Bride is about the power of money to save and destroy – and the harm that ensues when people are reduced to commodities. While there have been other films about prostitution in Thailand, My Thai Bride explores the lesser known story of the foreign marriage industry and the consequences for the men and women involved.

Seems a bit odd to close the thread because the filmmaker seems uncomfortable about the content. The participants in the film must have signed a release for the story to be made public, the filmmaker is profiting from the film and it is not available for download / purchase, but is only being shown in select venues, most likely with an admission fee.

There is another doco floating around called "Mee and My Dad" that is of a similar ilk. Here's a link.

An interesting doco....Shot by the son, of his father who has moved to Thailand to marry his Thai wife. Not overly in depth, but a story that is repeated daily I am sure.

The Thai wife is up front that she doesn't find her soon to be husband attractive and that she wouldn't have been interested if he didn't have money..

The son also makes a good point about his dad no wanting any responsibilities and freedom, but, then taking on two young kids and maybe wanting another child.

but the best line is when the guy is pissed and emotional and tells his wife:

"listen mate, you carry on like this you are fuc_ked"

I guess he has forgotten whose name is on that brand new house he has built in the village for he and his wife's family.

Said it before an' I'll say it again; this type of shit only happens to guys who don't know their way around women. No sympathy whatsoever. Chump should've known better.

Read Thai Visa. I have never read such a large group of accidents waiting to happen. One can only ponder and shake his head in wonder. What is the naturally occurring length of marriages in any population? Thai Visa % of marriages under 7 years? 90% maybe 95%.

I am not so happy to see so many middle-aged men being played by unscrupolous bar girls, even if from the POV of the girls it's an easy way out of poverty..

Thanks to internet, i hope the guys who come to Thailand looking for love open their eyes a little bit, although i have to admit that the nice weather, a gorgeous lady and a few drinks, can make a fool of any decent guy.
